For a few years I had the top spot in G for one of the big money phrases. I was living well and bought a very large house a three years ago. One of my competitors, whom I was friendly with, lived a frugal lifestyle. He lived alone in a small apartment and drove an older car. While I was living large, my competitor was reinvesting his funds back in his site. His site has been #1 for quite a while now and I am down to page three. I don't have any debt except a huge mortgage bill and I hope I can remain in my home. Good thing I invested some extra funds, when I had them, in some good Web directories that still produce some income. |

Sounds like your competition might have read the Millionaire Next Door. This is something to be aware about. Like "Rich Dad" Robert Kiyosaki says, "it's not what you had, it's what you keep". It's good practice to re-invest earnings into growing your site or business. It's also good practice to look for or create new opportunities. I think that one's from John Reese. Anyway, can you really rely on those directories? If not, it may be time to find ways to get back up to the top spot in G - or at least see what your competition is doing. Best of luck! - Jay |

Thanks Jay, No I can not rely on the directory income. What I'm doing is working on an ebook detailing what I know about making money with directories. As one of my first ebooks, I will likely offer it for free and include info about a service I can sell. As for my "money phrase" site, blog posts rank high for long tail titles within minutes after posting. I'm working on taking advantage of that. Most sites that try for the top spot on a big money phrase end up over-doing seo and get penalized. |

My real splurge was on my home. If it held it's value, I could have down-sized if income declined. Right not it is upside down and there is no good way out. | |
