I recently moved all my sites to seperate Cpanel accounts under a main reseller account, because my Wordpress/Joomla/Drupal sites were loading slow on my Godaddy hosting. I constantly see well reputed IMers recommending HG, many without trying to push affiliate links. For the first few weeks, my accounts seemed to be performing great. But the past few days, several sites have been very slow loading, and I put in a support ticket. For some reason, HG support asked me to do a bunch of ping tests, which I did, and sent back results via text file. Bottom line, they have no definitive answer, but say there is an "intermittant problem" they are "detecting." (?) Is any body else having problems with HG? If so, have you determined what could be happening? |

I'm not having problems on my HG sites right now but there's always little issues with HG like this. One that's happened to me often is when you've got a script installed on one of your sites, like a wordpress plugin, that breaks or malfunctions and starts making continuous calls to some file and causes HG to put automatic restrictions on your account. So ask them to check your log files if nothing else seems to resolve the problem and make sure there's nothing like that happening. Hope that helps. Andrew |

I'm currently hosting 23 sites with HG and haven't experienced anything crazy yet. I've been super impressed that I've maintained 99.9% uptime in the 11 months since my switch. Their reporting is pretty top-notch too. I try not to load my sites with files and the files that I do load aren't very big so this could be why I haven't had much problem. Could this be your issue? Do you have a bunch of pictures/scripts running in the background on your pages? |

I've been with HG for well over a year and haven't had any significant problems. Their support is pretty good as well.

I do have images, and a download page with files, but honestly most of the downloads are 1 mb or under (with the exception of one PDF that is 18 mb.) The graphics are optimized for web so they are not massive. As for scripts, no not really. I just have lots of plug-ins, many of which are intended to optimize the blog for SEO and performance (All In One SEO, WP Super Cache etc.)

My sites are not anything too exceptional in the way of server side processes, nor are they super high trafficked (wish I had that problem..) so that makes it even more unexpected. Regarding support, I totally agree they are really responsive and quick, and professional. I was a little surprised this past couple of days they hadn't been able to quickly resolve whatever this latest issue is.

Just thought of another issue I recently noticed: I installed the Wordpress plugin called "page peel", which does as it suggests, allows you to add a page peel offer to the upper right hand corner. I did the auto install, and it didn't work. So I did a manual instal, following the development instructions, still didn't work. Then I posted at the developers blog to ask him what he thought was causing the problem. He said by every thing he can see, the plug in is installed right and should work fine with my version with WP, but for some reason, the SWF (flash) files were just "refusing to load" in his words, and he had no idea what would be causing that. Conversely, I am currently reading some info on a wordpress blog (not one of my own) which I know is hosted on HostGator, and it has this very same plugin working perfectly...? |

You say you have a resellers account at Hostgator? Because what I have noticed is maybe just coincidence but I heared it from a member on an other forum too that a reselers account on HG runs slower then a normal shared hosting account on HG I have 6 accounts at HG, 5 are the baby package and 1 is a resellersaccount and I always feel like that last one is running slow. Never did an actual test but like I said I know somebody else that said the exact same thing. Edwin |

Originally I had a Hatchling which never gave me a problem. Then I upgraded to Reseller and migrated all my sites from Godaddy to HG. All was fine and it has been a couple of months, but then this week things started getting screwy. BUT, the good news is they got the issue with the Page Peel plug in resolved (as I mentioned in my last post.) The answer I got from support is as follows, in case this helps anyone in the future: "There was a mod_security rule (340163) that needed to be whitelisted. I whitelisted that rule and the site appears to load properly. Please verify..." Sure enough, the page peel works fine now, and it appears that load times are vastly improved over a few hours ago (although that issue has been intermittent so we'll see how long this lasts...)
