Do you really need a blog?

I had a Wordpress blog that pulled a few visitors a day and had a ton of valuable information marketers could use. It looked professional and was optimized.

A lot of people talk about using a blog as your main hub to direct traffic to. It sounds like a great idea but is it really necessary.

Wouldn't my time be better spent writing product reviews, creating lead capture pages, doing PPC?

Just wanted to get some thoughts on this issue. Thanks.

It all depends on your marketing strategy. If you have a good campaign rolling and a killer landing page, a blog would be a waste of time. But if you aim for search engine traffic which convince your visitors to increase your conversion rates by seducing them with reviews, videos and updated content you might want to use a blog for it. Either way, both the methods take time and money for success.

PPC? A waist of money. A blog is fine, especially for the long-term. Consider doing product reviews on your blog. Also, use article marketing in addition to blogging.

Yeah, I haven't really ventured too far into PPC territory but I get more serious about it later on. You mentioned article marketing, which I'm doing, and I read that you could write an article/review, then make a blog post about it to increase your web presence.

I've thought about doing that with blogger and creating a blog for each product - what are your thoughts on that?

Wordpress does work, but I'm looking for the best way to utilize my efforts with blogging to get the maximum results.

I would concentrate on only one niche first, instead of spreading myself too thin. I wouldn't use blogger. I would use wordpress, instead, so that I could have my own domain. With blogger, you don't have total control.

With this method, you might not get results immediately, but in the long run, you will as long as you stay focus and consistent.

However, don't jump from niche to niche. You'll easily lose focus this way and not see any results.

You have to take massive, consistent action in one area to really see results.

But I must warn you that blogging is not easy. If you don't think you could stick with it in long-term, then you may want to consider article marketing.

Blog is all about creating personal brand. When you write reviews, you are targeting mostly search engine visitors who come to your site buy/not buy and leave the site.

With blogs, you are creating a brand, a community, which will be with you for long time. They will buy every single product you put out because they trust you.

    That's the difference.

Blog is great for branding yourself; but why not write reviews of products you're familiar with for your followers.

YES you need a blog...Every piece of content that you ever put on the internet needs to be a part of your blog

          Emails
          Videos
          Articles
          press releases

          anything.

Why should you expect any other website like Ezine articles to promote your stuff on a continueous basis.

          They won't.

You need to have a blog.

My blog at Www.Whoisjeffmitchell.com is the primary data base for everyting.

Yes I still use Ezinearticles.com and can achieve rankings that are higher than the companies that I am reviewing.. But I put a huge focus on my blog..

Too many people get wrapped up in "personal branding" which is what I posted on my blog today ....Ego -vs- Effectiveness. Is Your Branding Beating Your Marketing | The Official Blog Of Jeff Mitchell "Online MLM Mentors"

Blogging is going the Road Less travelled. But for the Long Term it can pay off BIG. People dont want to do it because you have to have patience and work at it.

IMHO, too many are into immediate gratification.

Blogging is a Long term Investment if done right over time will pay you very, very handsomely.

Buy your Domain names, sit on it, write an occassional Post very month or so, get a few quality backlinks at Ezine Articles and see where you will be in 5 years !!

We are talking about consistent MASSIVE, Passive Income !!

But most just don't have the endurance to do it !!

Blogging and Aging your Domains is like collecting fine wine: It will only keep getting better and better as every year passes !!

Thanks for the reply, but I would think that in order to get the most out of your blog you would need to capture those visitors, get them on your list and then promote your product or service. What do you think?

Not necessarily. You can do everything with just RSS. Consider the top blogs like Copyblogger, Problogger, Zen Habits etc. They don't have email list (although some people subscribe to their blog by Email). Most of their readers subscribe via RSS. They provide value in all the posts. People trust them so much that they simply won't unsubscribe and also buy any product they sell.

But I do agree that if they create email list, they can be more successful. They'll certainly earn more money.

For me I'll focus on the important stuff that brings in the money and outsource everything else. All my blogs, articles etc gets outsourced. I dont see the need to invest time to generate traffic when you can just pay for it. I rather spend time improving the quality of my products.

Optimized your blog with seo techniques like meta description, meta title and meta tags. Then do link building of that blog and then you will get ranking in search engines and also get business.

  • Why is this an either-or question? It's like a chef asking, "Should I have a meat cleaver and a paring knife?" Of course the chef should have both! A blog is just another tool in your box. Why wouldn't you have one? They're very low maintenance.

But most just don't have the endurance to do it !!
Exactly -- blogging is a game of endurance if you want to make money from it, but it grows exponentially which means veeeerry slowly at first. The math is exactly like the "if I give you a penny today, two pennies tomorrow, four pennies the day after that, eight pennies the day after that..." thing. At the end of the month, you'll have something like $30,000. Of course the time frames are longer with blogging. It might take three months to get from 25 cents a day to 50 cents a day, another three months to get from 50 cents a day to a dollar a day... after a couple years, though, you're making some nice change.

The system that I learned from Alex Jeffreys and subsequently from Dean Holland concentrates on using your blog as the hub of your business and the more I learn the more I understand that this is true.

However, in the beginning I concentrated far too much time and effort on my blog and the results were, as you'd expect, minimal. Then I realised that my blog is best used as a way to let my subscribers and visitors get to know me so my blog has now become my secondary focus.

My aim is to drive all my traffic to a squeeze page to get their info (as we all do) and then tell them about my blog via email. This way they can come over there any time to see my progress, or reviews etc. Since I made that change in my business I have started moving forward a lot quicker and have great faith in what the future holds.

And my blog gets more hits than it ever did.

    Just my tuppence.

    Andy
