I recommend you create a pdf document with useful and practical information, then give it away as a instant download in exchange for the email address. The more value you can give the better it is!

Since you are looking for leads, why not look for some JV partners?

      > Churches - especially more progressive ones - will have members who are single, widowed and divorced.

      > Bars/clubs that run "Ladies Night" promotions might sponsor one or more of your seminars and provide some promotion.

      > How about partnering with the hip/trendy/"fashion forward" men's shops, where they put fliers in their bags at checkout and you plug them at your seminar?

Does that get the creative juices flowing again?

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

to me it sounds as if you need to go back to basics, hire some people to flyer in your local area for a couple of hours, round shopping areas (like mall's), maybe get together with other support groups in the area and host a joint seminar day??

      Thanks...

It mostly comes from good genetics (my folks are both pretty darn smart), coupled with keeping my eyes open through 50+ trips around the sun...

What do you think is the best way to approach them for a JV? Would it be a cross-promo, where I offer their flier at our seminars as well? Would I give them affiliate commission? What do you think the best way to do it is?

I've also thought about approaching all of the Speed Dating companies and other companies related to do get them promoting us, but not sure the best way to do it is. It is a big challenging setting up an affiliate relationship since the customer ONLY pays when they attend a seminar (sales aren't done online).
I'd start by proposing a simple cross-promotion. They include your fliers with purchases, you include theirs with your seminar materials. Or you could sweeten the pot and give them an active plug either in your seminar or the e-course you're using.

If you did want to offer a bounty, I'd make it similar to a CPA offer, rather than an affiliate deal. Run your numbers and figure out how much you can pay for an attendee. Then give them coded coupons to pass out. For every coupon redeemed, they get paid X amount. They don't have to work too hard, get something with a tangible value they can give their customers without dipping into their own margins, and they have the possibility of picking up a little extra revenue. You get more leads/attendees and you only pay for results.

I'd keep things really simple, a handshake with a quick confirmation letter. If the partners can't trust each other, they shouldn't be doing deals like this...

The best way to generate leads for just about any small business
is with what is sometimes called a magnetic marketing system. I
build these for a living. Done right, having such a system is
virtually a license to print money - assuming you run the back-end
of the business competently (ie. customer service, management,
and product innovation) and there is a big market for what you sell.

Systems can be simple or complex. Even the simpler ones can
allow you to walk all over your competition.

Could you send me a PM on your system. I have a handbag site and only want to attract locals initially. I need a system which will increase the traffic to my site very quickly.

John - I like the idea of doing it CPA. Would it be enough incentive for them to to do it for $10 an attendee? What would be better - using a flier or an actual ticket with a coupon code on it? Or maybe even just giving them their own special website link?

I'm a bit worried that some businesses might be wary about promoting a dating service, as it's still a rather "taboo" subject for a lot of people.

Thanks John - I'm going to milk your creativity even further! :-)

LOREN: I'd love to know more about this. Can you PM me details?
I'm the wrong person to ask. The only way to know for sure is to ask your potential partners.

If I were doing it, I'd print up fliers with a coupon coded to the various partners. Fairly easy to do using MS Word and mail-merging the print-out. Give my partners a stack of fliers and a master copy for making more if they want to.

After the seminar, you bring the redeemed coupons back to the partner, along with their share of the take.

      Keep it simple.

As far as some businesses being reluctant to promote a dating service, the old MLM saw fits here... SW SW SW

Some Will, Some Won't, So What?

If they say no, you're still right where you were before you asked. If they say yes, you're ahead. If you keep it business, you can't really lose.

    Nobody mentioned good ol' Craigslist.

Here's what I did for a successful seminar I promoted (nothing to do with dating):
    1. Connected with local on topic groups. Most happily notified their members in their email notices
    2. Pimped it out on MySpace (figuratively, not literally)
    3. Put up fliers at on-topic venues (with permission).
    4. Put it up on Craigslist, until some busybody deleted it, then promptly put it up again (rinse, repeat)
    5. Promoted it on forums (got into lots of flame wars over it, but it also brought it to many people's notice.)

That was a few years ago. There are many new online venues to utilize for this purpose, eg video sharing sites.

Another tip: Give the CURRENT attendees an incentive to get people there. Maybe a discount on the upgrade if they bring 2 people, or whatever.

You already have people coming, which is good. Why not capitalize on them?

Is there any charge for the initial seminar? If so, figure out how low you can go on it, depending on the number of upgrades you normally get. In other words, make more money on the back end by reducing the cost for entry to the front end.

    All the best,
    Michael

Have a good look at who your target market is ... and what services they use. Then go find JV's with those products services.

Off the top of my head (and I'm *not* your target market so I won't get this perfectly right...):

      - liquor distributors
      - sports tickets sales
      - car dealers
      - car toys
      - hair loss clinics :p
      - cosmetic dentists

      You get the idea.

Hair loss and cosmetic dentistry --- you don't have to bring them many new clients (even one) and they'll stick to you like glue.

I have software that allows you to add leads using skype. You put in variables and it pulls hundreds or leads and you can target by city, country, language, gender or info int their profile if you want to get it. Send me a skype message at businessprohome.

One thing that might work that I have seen before is host your own radio show. You can find software online that allows you to do this. All you need is a microphone I believe. Then promote the radio show through your site, flyers etc. Just a thought
