My Friday The 13th RANT and a Poll

Ok folks.

It started out great this morning. Got up, had my coffee, got some work done, came in here for a break and to jibber jabber a bit, and then I got a message from a fellow warrior.

This person had been informed that someone else (another warrior member) said that I had harassed them.

Now, first off, if you have a question or a concern about someone, make sure you verify your source before issuing statements about them.

I was extremely grateful this had been brought to my attention. I immediately contacted the support desk for advice on how to proceed. I have since resolved any speculation with that member that I am not the cause of their problem.

I was not in a position to just report this person - as I had no idea how they had arrived at the conclusion that I was the one doing the dirty work.

I come to find out that this person only thought it was me based on what they were told.

Someone told them that their name was avenuegirl and that they were a member of the warrior forum.

Now, this really ticks me off that someone is impersonating me.

What is really concerning is it could happen again to another random victim.

So, to begin with - if anyone is approached by anyone who is claiming to be a member of this forum you should contact them through the forum first to verify they are actually who they say they are.

Secondly, there is a TON of spam mail and email going around that will look like it is from a friend of yours but it is not. Just this past week I assisted another friend who had a gmail account, and some how someone had all of her contacts that were listed in her gmail account and managed to spam the whole lot of them. Her passwords had not been compromised, and we could not figure out how someone got all of the contacts information but they did.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Be careful of who you are dealing with on the web.

If you get some spam from a friend - don't immediately jump to conclusions.

So finally, I am wondering if I should change my user name to my real name - if it will make any kind of difference at this point. I also have a question - if my name changes will it change it on every post I have made on the forum?

What would you do?

Oh, and please do hit the poll, thanks.

Sometimes I like to put on a dress and impersonate you when I go to Wal-Mart.

I like real names. Brands you better!

Did I see you on the wrong Twitter list then? Might need another one.

It's ok, don't let this upset you. Misunderstandings happen and sometimes they're intentionally instigated just to put someone down. But don't let it get to you.

As you have resolved the matter already it shouldn't affect your business or presence here on the Warrior Forum. Infact I'm certain most people won't even realise this happened.

You know we all love you

    Thanks,
    Adam

My concern is that the person who did this will do it again and again.

Apparently there was an actual phone conversation that took place, and was a lady with a particular accent, definitely not an accent a small town girl from upstate NY has.

I get concerned because I like to nip these things quickly. All I need is 5 years down the road a mob of angry men showing up at my door or a ton of lawyers with restraining orders. LOL

Actually, now that I think about it, that could be pretty HOT.

I recently just did that: chnaged my nick to my real name.

The change will be on every post of yours, even the old ones.
However, it will not change the name in quotes like above. If you request a name change, the new name will appear next to your OP here but the change will not affect what is in the quote in my post.

If my explanation is not clear enough - look at this old post of mne and the reply below it: Example...

That was a very clear explanation. Thank you.

I think the fact that you have your real name listed just below your forum id is ok. That way we still know who you are. And you explained the nickname in an earlier post.

The people with the strange forum ids that hide their true identity and location are the ones to worry about.

I am so glad you got this sorted out Jill (I never did believe it the first I read of it as I said to you in pm) and no I do not think you should change your username - as another said, you have your name under your real name and I don't think you should let these low lifes affect what and how you do things because you are great just the way you are!

      Have a great weekend

Me too! I was all excited to get harassed by thecute AvenueGirl. I even combed my beard. Since harassment was involved, I climbed into some wonderful studded S&M gear. Imagine my shock when the AvenueGirl that showed up at my door was a wrinkly old grandfather sporting nothing but a toothless smile. I'm still washing my eyes out.

Hey, Jill, I just wanted to commend you for taking such calm, controlled actions regarding this matter. There is no doubt that when you first got that PM you were a bit upset. I'm proud of you for proceeding the way you did. Many people would take matters into their own hands and do something harsh; however, those sort of actions only make you look worse.

    Great job!

If you use your real name, someone can still impersonate you. I've had it happen. Your ID is easy to remember; if it were me, I'd leave it.

I have to admit, "Avenue Girl" kind of implies a pretty dirty profession don't ya think?

At least that is what I think of when I hear that name.

It's kind of like Boulevard Betty.
