Default what membership site software do you use?

Hi Warriors...I need some help! After some serious contemplation I have decided to move several of my free eBook campaigns from static thank you pages over to simple free membership sites. But the software I use to run the one membership site I have now is a complete joke. So if anyone can give me a quick headsup on what has worked best for them I'd appreciate it BIG TIME! All I'm looking for is something like Mike Filsaime has set up at http://www.firesalesecrets.com/ .

Thanks in advance!

Simple Member Pro would work, or aMember.

aMember has worked well for me. The learning curve is a little steep at first, but it has the functionality to deal with all the issues running a membership site creates that you didn't think of beforehand.

Good luck with it,
Neil

I'm using Delavo, it offers several ways of creating a membership site.

I use various membership scripts but amember is one of the simplest one. You may also want to look free WSO for membership script at FREE Membership Site Script – Manage Member & Subscription Based Websites FREE . I have not installed it yet but it is impressive and FREE.

Default Re: what membership site software do you use?

It depends on several factors. If you want to use MULTIPLE DOMAINS / SITES, then most scripts will cost you PER DOMAIN. Like aMember, MemberGate, etc.

RAP + Membership Plus is licensed to use on any domain that you own for one price.

Ditto for Butterfly Marketing.

Some of the really low-end scripts might do what you want, but you can out-grow them pretty quickly. They're ok if all you want to do is post a file for members from time to time, but you usually won't be able to drip content, segment things by date (eg, monthly), or support multiple levels of membership.

If it's a free membership site, consider a simple password-protected area that contains a Wordpress blog. I think there may be some free or very inexpensive WP Plugins that will do that for you as well.

You could also set up a forum using something like phpBB or SMF Forum. Most forum software can be set to require the owner to approve new registrations. You can have an open-access area for everybody, as well as boards that are restricted to members who are included in certain "groups". So you could easily have multiple levels of membership on an SMF Forum with very little hassle. I think there's even an inexpensive "mod" for SMF that lets you manage that stuff automatically.

That's odd...I only used that site as an example b/c Mike Filsaime mentioned it in his Butterfly Marketing Manuscript. Not sure why or how you got into his site without opting in though. Maybe he just isn't doing anything with the site anymore.

The link in the quote above goes straight to the /thankyou.php page. Don't think it's your fault, though; it's in the public root directory. If he didn't want you there he should have set it up with something less obvious than that.

Ha yeah...he must of sold the product at one time. Now he just forwards the url to the thank you page and makes you opt in to receive it.

I use aMember, but the learning curve was way steep for me and I wound up spending much more time and money getting it configured than I had possibly expected. If it weren't for the help I found at membershipacademy.com, I'd have given up on it.

If I was to start over, I'd definitely be giving nanacast a shot. On the surface it looks pricey, but for what it provides, it seems to be a solid value and a good product.

For those who don't know that is actually one of the BFM marketing methods that Mike has used and taught through the BF Manuscript. You create your main sales page for a free product to look like your thank you product delivery page and have the free signup at the bottom.

Its a marketing technique.

For my last two membership I used Wishlist plugin for wordpres. It is very good, but it doesn't have integrated affliate program. You can use it with clickbank or paydotcom.

Freakin Brilliant!!! :0)

Matt, I have bought and tested quiet a few membership scripts and it'll sort of depend on how fancy you want to get.

I know Memberspeed.com is having a great deal right now but the the learning curve on it is a bit steep. But it's definitely an All In One solution.

Delavo is also great. And it offers more variety then most folks will ever use in one lifetime. But even the basic version kicks **s.

Wishlist (for wp) is great if you want to run wp as your platform. And it's probably the easiest I've ever installed.

Super Easy to install and run is Alan Reece's memberactive (no affiliate link: Memberactive Gold ) I sell this but haven't set up the page yet. But for $97 it's really a great tool.

memberfire was an easy setup but had a few gliches in it. I didnt like it because it wasn't all that secure. But for a basic membership it's the perfect price (free last I checked at memberfire.com)

Simple member pro just did a revamp of their script and it looks pretty good. I have it but haven't installed it yet.

And of course there is amember.

Now without knowing what your goal is I can also recommend using joomla and droopal. Like wp these cms scripts have an endless supply of cool plugins BUT you'll be building from the ground up.

Hope this really confuses the h*ll out of you and make decision making even more brutal :0) ====> Just kidding

Thanks everyone for your insight. I ended up just putting the private site on my Ning site as a private group. I have to manually approve the requests is all. But I'm online 17 hours a day so that won't be an issue.

I just hate messing around with scripts. They make them far more complicated than they need be. So screw em is what I say!

I recommend you find a full service membership script provider. Make sure they show contact details, and test their support ahead of time.

I offer this personally, and you'd be surprised how many times people call me, and are like "Wow. You actually do answer your phone."

I'd also steer clear of any one page sales sites, as well as sites without testimonials, or testimonials with initials only, or without links. Sometimes there are valid reasons for this, but not for the majority.

My 2 cents,
Jim

ALL Wrong!! (LOL) But I'm Late! The best is Membergate but pricey.

The other BEST one is JEM or JAM by Ryan dba Jrox:
JROX.COM - registration

Simple membership, affiliate, shopping cart, digital or physical inventory, CRM, twitter updates, ads & banners, etc.. does more than I can remember, GREAT support too.

AND IT'S totally FREE for the first 50 members - after that it's still way under $200 for unlimited domains and they White-Label it for Resellers.
Easy to install with windows installer.

This text is from Jrox website. As per them free version is restricted to 50 users. It is not free for first 50 members but it is free if you have only 50 users..............You need to upgrade it if you have more than 50 users...........

There is no obligation and you can use it for as long as you want. The only limit is that it is restricted to 50 users. When you're ready to upgrade, just enter a license key in your store to unlock. No need to upgrade or install new files.

I haven't purchased yet but after looking at a ton of membership products I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with DAP (digitalaccesspass.com). It has a lot of features and the developer is very easy to reach and will help with any problems you have setting it up (I'm not very techie LOL). I'll look at some of the others mentioned here too. *SmiLes* Suzanne

I'm using Butterfly Marketing script for some of my sites.

It's suitable for managing access to different product downloads based on different membership level.

However, it may not suitable for managing content-rich membership sites.

Does Mike support the Butterfly Marketing script any longer? It was pretty much abandoned a couple of years ago, but may have been resurrected I suppose. There were some pretty serious security holes in it.

I'm not totally sure but I believe that now it comes with no "official" support unless you pay extra for it.

I know when he did the 2.0 release there were several disclaimers saying you get no official support and any issues should be posted on the forum so other users could offer suggestions on how to fix problems.

The script is still being updated and new stuff has been added, but you seem to be pretty much on your own where support is concerned.
