Hi,
Can anybody help me. I'm rather new to all this and am currently doing a bit of research on IM. From what I've seen out there if you sign up to any affiliate program you get a rather ugly affiliate link. I believe their is software out there that hides or 'cloaks' the link to something else. Can anybody tell me when I eventually get the courage what should I be using and why. Obviously to start off with I would prefer something free but would be happy to spend $ if this makes all the difference. Thanks in advance, Fraser :-) |

I wont promote my own product
...but be careful with URL shortener services, not always reliable. There are some free, simple cloakers around if you do some googling.

If you really want free, then google jump.php
If you want tracking and testing - you'll need something more superior, but jump.php works. |

You can use a simple PHP script to redirect a user from the page they entered to a different web page.
<?php header("Location: http://www.myaffiliatelink.com"); ?> Replace the above url with your affiliate link. Create a folder and name it "recommend" (for example) and save the above as "index.php" into the "recommend' folder. Upload the whole folder to your server. Now when someone click on your http://www.mywebsite.com/recommend it will redirect to your affiliate link at http://w w w.myaffiliatelink.com |

If you're using Wordpress try AFLinker plugin. It allows you to automatically "wrap" keywords and keyphrases within your pages with cloaked (neat looking) affiliate redirects of your choice. AFLinker also could "wrap" your images with cloaked affiliate clickable links.
Less work, more automation and no ugly affiliate links to confuse visitors, lose commissions or be punished by search engines. Gleb |

That works wonderful if you feel geeky, familiar with PHP and want to manually insert affiliate redirects into every page and article on your site.
For lots of webmasters this is not an option. Gleb |

If you're on WordPress and want something lightweight to do the job, you could try the GoCodes redirection plugin.

This way works but if I may suggest Pretty Link (if you're using Wordpress) - it will give you some nice stats and let you figure out who's clicking what. Plus, it's dead simple to setup and you can use different "types" of cloaking. My 2 cents

My personal view is that you should avoid link cloaking. Be open with your website/blog visitors. Also link cloaking software isn't always reliable so you could be losing clicks and never even realise it.

You don't need any "link" cloaker, it's a waste time and money because you can do it your self in a snap.
<html><head> <title>Your KEYWORD</title> <frameset rows="1, *" border="0"> <frame noresize="noresize" src="1.html" /> <?php $_SERVER['FULL_URL'] = 'YOUR AFFILIATE LINK HERE'; if($_SERVER['QUERY_STRING'] > ' ') { $_SERVER['FULL_URL'] .= '?'.$_SERVER['QUERY_STRING']; } print "<frame noresize=\"noresize\" src=\"" . $_SERVER['FULL_URL'] . "\" />"; ?> </frameset> <?php header('Location: YOUR AFFILIATE LINK HERE'); ?> </html> Save this code to productname.php Make a folder "go" in your root folder of your domain, and add that .php file there. |

Thanks for all the info !
I guess there is a lot out there...all I really want is when I start doing some affiliate marketing the link looks clean rather than the ugly one you see in emails. I will look at all the above. Thanks once again. Fraser :-) |
