Hey guys just wanted to ask, if you are into affiliate marketing and you do clickbank products, how many hops before you make a sale do you think is profitable?

Now i know that people here will say that it depends on the product, but lets just say that all products are equal, how many hops before you make a sale can you say its profitable and worth promoting? 1:100, 1: 200 hops?

Well it depends on where the traffic is coming from. If it's SEO traffic through a blog then I'll be happy with 1:200 but if it's more targeted traffic like PPC then 1:100 would be the low end.

A better criteria is % referred traffic...the higher the percentage the more likely the offer will convert -- if it didn't affiliates wouldn't be pushing traffic to the offer and the percentage would be lower.

I usually average about 1:150- 1:200 with mainly seo. Doing a little PPC, but the main is SEO and social media marketing.

So lets say you get around 300 clicks and no sale you move on to the next product?

    Hi Gerry

Would you personally try to promote something that converts that low?

No I wouldn't bother. Targeted Traffic is valuable and to get a low conversion rate like that is just wasting the traffic.

Price does make a difference though.

For example, you could sell a $10 product 5 times with 200 Hops or sell a $50 product once with 200 hops.

It really depends on the product you are selling, it's price and the amount of targeted traffic you are getting.

that is an average over time. i wouldnt abandon a product until i had at least 1000 hops, then if sales are not averaging out i would consider dropping it. You could go 200-300 with no sales then all of a sudden the next 100 hops you get 6 sales. you never know when someone will buy. just keep testing, and try to get your hop rate up. then worry about conversions when you actually have some data to analyze.

so ill need at least 1000 hops to establish a trend and decide whether to pursue the product?
