What Do Need To Start Having Affiliates?

Alright Guys

I know this might sound like a very stupid question but I need your help please

At the moment I am setting up this blog digitalresellersvault.com where I will be adding on a daily basis digital downloads for sale. They come with various licences...

But I am wondering if I wanted/would like affiliates to joined and promote those products which in turn will help both me and them out, in cash, etc what things do I need?

What special peice of software/script do I need to do that with?

If they are promoting individual products, I wont need to set up special affilate banners, etc??

First of all you need good products. If you offer quality products with great commission (at least 50% for digital products) you will get affiliates to promote them.

For affiliate script just search warrior forum and you will find a lot of them. You don't need any script if you use clickbank or paydotcom.com for your affiliate programs.

It's not quite as simple as dmarze says.

First of all, if you choose to pay affiliates yourself, you will cut the number of affiliates who will promote you significantly. Many people won't trust an individual to pay, but they will trust an affiliate network like Clickbank. I'd use Clickbank simply because they already have affiliates looking for products to promote, and because they are more trusted to pay than most individuals.

And good products are not enough. Affiliates won't even find you if you don't do some serious chasing.

You need to have great products, a high price and high commissions. Most people have a set amount in their head that they are willing to accept as a minimum for promoting a product. For some people that might be $10 or $20. For others, it is a lot higher. Some gurus I've talked to say they won't even promote a product if they don't get at least $100 in commission unless there are other very important factors. They might promote something as a favor for someone they know, or if they happen to really believe in the product. But it would have to be one phenomenal product.

It's tough to get affiliates. Really tough. Unless you already have a name and reputation, finding affiliates can be like pulling teeth. Just be prepared to work, work, work to get your affiliates and keep them.

Whilst there are probably many DIY affiliate systems on the market, the top 2 seem to be iDev and Post Affiliate Pro (PAP4). idevdirect[dot]com and qualityunit[dot]com respectively.

I have used both and I think my preference is for PAP4 - but it's a close call. Post Affiliate Pro has really improved it's documentation and help facilities recently which were definitely lacking before.

With both systems you can install it yourself or get them to install it for you. What these systems do is provide a page where affiliates can sign up to your program. You set the commissions and payout settings in the backend and you have to add some text links and graphics etc as tools for your affiliates to use.

With either system you will probably need to spend a couple of days working out how it all works and then customising it for your own requirements. There are good video tutorials with both products to help with this. But once that is done then it's great, the system will track clicks and sales, it can cope with sub affiliates, there are plenty of reoports for you and your affiliates to view and you make your payouts at the click of your mouse.

I have gone with PAP4, for my most recent affiliate program, because iDev couldn't facilitate an unusual request that we had. But I think I would say that the help and support in iDev is marginally better.

      Hope that helps

Byron, have you looked at the RAP script ( Rapid Action Profits ) ?

You can use it for your own products as well as those you have resale rights for and it will handle all your affiliate payments for you.

You'll also find it easier to recruit affiliates when you offer instant commission payments.

You could also look at JV's, which you can even find here at the warrior forum.

Finding affiliates is tough, especially those that will actually go out there and sell for you. You've REALLY got to make it enticing for them, including a nice commission, products that are good and sellable, and selling materials such as banners, articles, etc.

Instant payments are sexy. So is unique content. The trouble with resell rights collections, is that they're everywhere.

Massive collections can be had on ebay for a buck.

I'm not saying your site cannot work, but have you researched your competition? What makes your offer stand out from the others?

I'm from Quality Unit (we develop Post Affiliate Pro), so I'm not sure if my opinion is relevant here.

I don't want to push you to any sale or something, I just want to show you why is our system unique and you can compare it with our competition.
Here is link, where we point out some unique features you will not find in other systems: Unique Affiliate Software

Also in case you will not like our software, we can make full refund within 30 days - we really believe in our software and therefore it is not a problem to return you all money if you will not like our application.

We have also hosted accounts, so you can start with really low costs your own affiliate program.
