Hi Thanks to Michael Mayo and my host, my site is now clean of hacking exploits My host reckons that the entry point for the hacking was FTP, I am currently using WS_FTP and would like recommendations for a more secure ftp program Thanks Michael |

This is one of the more secure methods, it may run a little slower because of the encryption, but if secure is what you want, then this is it, Glub Tech: Secure FTP - a 256-bit strong cross-platform FTPS client |

WS_FTP has a secure mode that uses SFTP. It is somewhere in settings. It is as good or bad as you use it.

I use FireFTP which is an addon for Firefox, in fact I seem to use Firefox for just about everything these days ! Any of the above mentioned ones I've used in the past and found to be ok too.

I`m doing FTP stuff directly from Notepad++. Once get familiar with its interface, it delivers me faster results than previously used FTP clients. You might be interested to try Smart FTP for start? It`s intuitive and quite reliable client. |

I'm using SmartFTP for a few years and it's the best out there as far as I know. Cheers, Mike |

I use Filezilla these days. It makes managing multiple hosting accounts and individual site accounts much easier. I used to use FireFTP but after about 50 accounts it got too messy. As for securing FTP, make sure that you have disallowed anonymous FTP access to your sites. The default setting in CPanel is to allow this access. Also use strong passwords like i8$n3]Z2(B6[a7#^, not something like "secret1" or your name. |

I now use WinSCP WinSCP :: Free SFTP and FTP client for Windows and do all transfers in secure SFTP mode. Many sites have been hacked lately and sending your password in the clear every time you open an ftp connection is one way that the hackers can get to your site. Steve |
