It is because email marketing is one of the best ways to make money online. When you have someones email address, you can market your products and services to them over and over again.

It makes it real easy to build a relationship with your list, give them cool stuff for free, help them out and sometimes let them know about your latest product.

Imagine if you have a list of.. I dunno.. 10,000 people and convert just 10% of those into customers.. that's a lot of sales.

yes there will be people who will simply subscribe using throwaway email address and also immediately unsubscribe after downloading your product.

However that is only a small percentage of people. If 10 subscribers out of 100 use throwaway emails you still got 90 subscribers worth communicating to.

I agree..but with my opt-ins there is even less (3%) of fake opt-ins who never opened another email or imediately unsubscribed from my list..so conclusions is that there is a very small percentage of people who is doing this, and nevermind that group

Thanks a good question for "dummies" to ask.
Your list my friend is your asset. You can walk away with it and start over..
I hope you 'get it'..

The freebie seekers that unsubscribe once they have their download likely wouldn't be your customers anyway. It is all part of list building and, yes it ticks me off that they do this, but in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really cost me anything. In fact, they even do me the favor of pruning my list when they unsubscribe.

I hate opt-in because I know exactly what is going to happen. I get flooded by you trying to sell me dirt.

Nothing to see here. Move along, citizen.

this is not always true, some people actually take time to provide quality and value. ALthough I do promote products to my list, 90% of the emails I send have no monetary value for me. I send links to great posts, free stuff i find, my blog updates, Then ocassionally, a promotion.

The thing is that most of the lists you are thinking of are in the make money online niche. This niche is the worst niche about spamming each other junk.
