Default Some Thoughts and Questions from a newbie.

Hello everybody. First time poster on here obviously. I just want to Introduce myself and ask a few questions. First of all I would like to thank all of you for this GOLD MINE of information. I have just found this site recently and it has greatly expanded my knowledge of this industry. I participated in another on line forum and did not get the same vibe over there than here. Alot of you are very successful in this business and it is a PLEASURE to read your post's and insights.

My name is Justin, and am a total newbie in this industry looking on advice how to get my feet wet. I have been researching this industry for well over a year, but never had the money or time to get involved. But I have recently had a HUGE kick in the rear from my soul sucking 9-5. IM is what I want to do. I am fully aware of all the slow, rough times in the beginning, and am mentally prepared for that. I am a driven, persistent person and have to do this for many reasons. Anyways, I have some observations and questions about my start in this industry that I hope some would be kind enough to give some advice.

I work full time currently(HATE the job, but thats another story lol) so IM will be part time at first. With my ultimate goal to be making enough in 6 months to replace my current modest salary(24k/yr), and the build from there. Is this a realistic goal for somebody like me? I have an extensive background with computers and already know alot about hosting, domains etc...plus my partner in crime my long time girlfriend will be helping. She has a degree in Web Design which I think will help speed up the learning curve. She hardly works, so will have alot of free time to develop sites and write content while I am at the office. From my research this seems to be a realistic goal, replace my salary then shoot for the stars from there!

My plan is start in SEO and article marketing and spend a few months focusing on ONLY that until it completely sinks in. Then develop a nice bank roll(5k or so) then start to learn PPC and build my business from there. This is my ultimate goal from now until next June. I have a couple niches I think I could do well in. Not very competitive at all. And same for my girl, shes got a few which I think have some potential. Heres where Im at, where should I go? Im on the fence of joining Wealthy Affiliates, as it seems legit and would be good for a total newbie like me lol. At least until I know what I am doing. Thanks all for reading this. Would anyone kindly share any advice on where to start and get my feet wet?

Hi Justin,

Advice on how to get your feet wet: Find yourself a nice, bubbling brook or serene pond and walk on down to the bank (the dirt kind, not the money kind) and have a seat. Then, pull off your shoes and socks. Next, gather together your courage and ease just the big toe of your right foot into the stream, to test temperature and prepare your body for possible shock if it's cold. Finally, just plunge both feet right on in there, and violetta! Wet feet!

Okay, okay. Yeah, I know that wasn't what you meant. Just had a strange urge to be silly there. Your plan (above) sounds like a good one to me. Simple, not over-complicated (a fatal mistake some folks make) and doable.

Stick to it, and let us know how it goes. I'm rooting for ya!

Tina

Mate... I'm jealous. You got the skills and support to really do well. If there are newbie's out there with absolutely no technical skill or know-how doing amazing based on pure implementation - then the world's your oyster.

I've messed about far too much with the classic of jumping from one idea to another. With hindsight (and little technical knowledge) I wish I'd just build a squeeze page sooner, driven traffic to it, built an email list and promoted either my own or affiliate products (or probably both).

Create a rich and deep backend of upsells, downsells and what-ever-sells and then get a stack of affiliates promoting your stuff.

That's the key mate.

1. Your goal is realistic but what will you do exactly to get there (articles and SEO get you traffic) but what will you sell???

Selling something is key. Everything revolves around that at some level...no matter the niche.

2. I would say that to get your feet week you should get some PLR (private label rights content...where you get it and can do whatever you want with it...roughly speaking) and improve it, add to it, and reformat it to create your first product in your niche that you are sure will work.

Sell it...add a paypal button and use your article writing and SEO to sell it...

Keep improving it, sell more, reinvest in knowledge, and get rid of your job in a few months (very possible if you do this the right way)

PM me if you want more info than this my friend. Welcome to the world where jobs don't exist

Cheers,

Brad

Wow this place is amazing. That was fast!! Thanks for all the replies. IM seems like a daunting world at first,so I will use my current know how with a simple driven plan and see it out until something works. As for as what I am gonna sell.......this is the ultimate question isn't it? Well I havent joined a network yet, Im waiting to get paid to get my domain and hosting set up. In the meantime I am planning and researching as much as possible. My timeline is on this coming Friday to have everything set up and apply for a few networks.

I would have to applaud you for actually taking steps to learn this business. I see so many people come into this forum and just ask a lot of questions that they can find by just doing a little research. I tried Wealthy Affiliates and it is good if you are starting at zero knowledge. But just stay on for about 2-3 months max, if you work every night on it you can pickup the information quickly and move on.

Search the forum for recommendations, as there are many other online IM training avenues, just find one with the right fit and go for it.

You may want to go to www.Flippa.com and purchase a very well done Wordpress site, for under $200 and start there. Learning to get your site listed on the search engines is not all that hard. You will find conversion; actually getting someone to buy from you is much harder. So if you can learn to use Wordpress, see the all-in-one Wordpress thread on this forum, you can buy a cheap site done by some very talented designers for cheap. Take that site over and promote the heck out of it.

Make sure you get your Adsense ID and Clickback ID ready to go, as the person you buy from will most likely have this in the blog and you will need to change out his ID’s for yours.

Now on to promotion. Article marketing can be hard or easy depending on what you do. Creating backlinks can be the same; it all depends on the way you do it. Check out my site in my signature and see what I have to offer. I can get your blog listed with article and backlinks to over 3000 blogs pretty quickly.

But there are many others who also do this, so read comments on this forum; it is a virtual treasure cheat of advice.

And last but not least, share your wealth with your Girlfriend. If she has the talent as you say to build and help promote websites, her success will be your success, build your empire together.

Take a day off.

Rob
