I have a html template that I want to use for a new site but want to use it as a blog. All the "how to" pages I read seem gobbldygook!

I know how to strip out the HTML code quickly leaving just the content but actually using the code. I would think that would be difficult. I would love to see Dr. Andy's technique.

If you know HTML and some PHP it's relatively easy to do it.

    It's systematic and logical.

You just have to break up your static template into 3 key parts and name the files correctly.

    On the other hand...

If you don't know HTML and PHP... this could seem like a heck of a challenge!

I would outsource it. Should come to about $50 - $100 for a job like that.

    Cheers

I was searching the forum looking for an answer to this so i thought i'd bump this thread.

I have an html site with some external backlinks and it ranks well for a few of my chosen keywords. How do i migrate to Wordpress on the same root domain without killing the backlinks and the ranking?

I think that's what the OP wants to do as well?

I've read that Google doesn't like a lot of 301 redirects.

If the backlinks point to the root - there is no problem.

If the backlinks point to separate pages inside the web site - there should be some additional work with permalinks and/or Page structure.

In most of the cases it can be done. The final answer always depends on the site's present structure.

Since 301 are permanent redirects - usually, there is nothing wrong with them, in case that you need to use them.
