A Whole Lotta Traffic

I have a friend that wants to start up a coupon site for local businesses similar to groupon.com. Groupon.com gets around 30-35,000 visitors a day to the site. My question is how would someone get that much traffic to the site ppc geotargeted, ppv, press releases, etc. He was asking me how I would go about doing it and said I get maybe 5000 visitors to my site a month.

Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated...

      Use press releases to announce features of the site that include visitor interaction.

      Example:

      Charge Restaurant(fill in business here) $100.00 per month fo placing their coupon on your site.

      Allow restaurant to pay half in cash, and half in gift certificates.

      Issue a press release to your local media.
      "Locally Owned Coupon Website Aims To Save (Area Consumers) And Buys Dinner Too!"

      Use the restaurant gift certificates as the prizes for winners of the best recipe.

      You can apply this concept to many types of businesses and business owners are very responsive to barter opportunities for advertising.

    Well try facebook fan pages and yahoo answers. They are also a good source of driving traffic to your website.
