I Bought A Review On JohnChow.com For $500

I paid for a review via ReviewMe on JohnChow.com a few days ago ( it cost $500 ) and today the review was posted on his blog:
Finding the Best Expired Domains with DNXpert | John Chow dot Com

I thought I'd write my overall impressions here in case someone else was thinking about doing this.

I like the review and it seems some traffic is trickling from the blog already. Also, I am happy about the keywords that my service was linked by.

The only thing I can mention as a slight negative so far is the lack of communication from JohnChow about the review in general - although he did his review really well.

I will keep you all posted about the traffic this generates as soon as my stats are updated.

John

Well, no actually. I posted here for people like Stanley that might be interested in getting reviewed by Chow in the future.

How much traffic have you received? $500 seems a little high to me...

I got a JohnChow review as well for purchasing through his affiliate link... planning on using it in the coming weeks. Looking forward to seeing your results.

I haven't had a chance to look at my stats yet - they update a bit late. I'll report once I have them.

It looks to be a very professional and fair review John

Hey I must admit, I've often thought your list of domains would be better to read if in alphabetical order lol so he obviously did his homework

As to the price, (as someone mentioned it), well I'd say if you get a heap of traffic and sales etc it's money well spent. (You gotta spend it to earn it)!

    Cheers
    Kim

... and that's a good mentality to have - "You're new here so you know nothing...". While I think his post was ignorant, I think yours was too.

On the topic of the $500 being a waste of money, how can you possibly judge when the review was posted yesterday? Taking a quick look at the review and website, he's collecting leads (via opt-in + each person who joins the forum is a lead - mass PMs for the win), selling an eBook and selling advertising on the blog section - plenty of ways to make that $500 back using the traffic...

Interesting, John. My view is that the initial cost does not matter as long as it pays for itself and then some. Looks like you're in for a good bit of traffic!

    John,

It's worth the $500. You will be getting traffic for at least a week.

To get more out of the review, try answering to the comments in the blog review. This will help you in getting more people.

    Hope my tip helps.

He didn't write your review. Look at the byline. John Chow saves himself a lot of time by outsourcing. ;-)

I realize Michael Kwan did the review - he does them all. I did my research. What I mean with that is lack of communication from JohnChow.com - Michael Kwan represents JohnChow.com in this matter.

who cares who wrote it as long as its a good one and it pays for itself

Burncycle if you stop being a prick for a few moments, you may come to realise you have to spend money to make it. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sounds to me like John has made a decent investment

I'd also suggest if you don't have anything of value to offer to the forum, don't bother!

Just shows that there's a market for writers who want to get paid more than $5 an article.

John, I think you made a good move. Even if it doesn't pay for itself in the immediate future you still will grow your site from the visitors you receive from the review. I suspect you will gain a few more monthly subscribers to your premium lists and recoup the cost shortly though.

Will be interested to see the traffic stats. I've been thinking of getting a review from him on one of my sites.

Paying for advertising is really all about sales.

If you make over $500 in sales of your digital product from this review (after refunds and other costs) then this is a great deal.

You get the buyers who you can sell back end products and services to.

Never get hung up on cost. Focus on Return On Investment (ROI).

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

I don't know why there is quite a bit of negativity about spending $500 on review.

In fact if you go through reviewme there are sites out there charging $250 for a review with Alexa rankings 1/4 as as good as John Chow and 1/8 the blog subscribers.

He has about 33,000 subscribers to his blog.

Advertising costs are only relevant to your price points, conversions, and ROI.

What matters is your return on investment after the dust settles and I would be interested to find out how it worked out for you John.

Depending on what you business model is and what your lifetime value of the customer is $500 is DIRT cheap...

I have clients running ads right now where they are losing money on the front. But what's important is that they're getting customers into their system. They know what their worth...

So even though they're losing a good chunk on the front end they're making back the investment sometimes 3 or 4 k times over on the back-end.

    That's what it's all about.
