As many other marketers, one of my favorite and most interesting things to do is actually keyword research. I like firing up my Market Samurai (or whatever tools you guys prefer) and go hunting for new, exciting niches and keywords - in the hopes to find this or that gold mine. Now, for article marketing, you dont always need to solely focus on niche research and those "hard to find good keywords". The worst thing which would happen is that you actually forfeit a niche or keyword, because you think its too oversaturated and you will never make profit in that niche. Wrong! You would be very, very surprised how many writers use mainstream niches and products - like, say, "weight loss", "colon cleanse", "acne"...etc...niches you would never touch if you were to RANK sites for it in Google or if you had adwords campaigns fur such products. Article Marketing is much more forgiving in a sense that you can indeed dive in such mainstream niches and you can make good money with it. That being said, it does of course NOT hurt to use Market Samurai etc. and do some keyword research, there is always some keywords which are more promising than others with higher search volume and less competition - but it shouldn't be the straw you depend on. A good indication what goes well is indeed clickbank (or cbengine etc.) stats. Look at the high gravity products and niches there. MOST of them would utterly fail for ranking or doing PPC since the niche seems just too saturated. But article marketing gives you a chance to "simply" churn out volume for those products - and every *single* article is an opportunity to show that you are an authority in that field, every single article CAN convince the reader to buy - way, way more than what you are ever able to do in a couple of lines in your adwords ad where you would pay premium per click for said niches and keywords. Ultimately, it comes down to: Check your affiliate program(s), what is going well? There is a reason it IS going well, and there is a reason why many writers submit articles for those products over and over. You see an author on ezine having submitted like 800 articles about, say, "reverse phone number lookup" promoting a certain affiliate product. <-- Example. Why do you think does the writer submit those articles for months and months in a row? Because he is making money with it and he will continue to do so. |

Fantastic tip, and one that none of the article marketing guides mention. Because of the way article directories work, if someone publishes an article that you've written for something like 'weight loss', who cares what google ranks you. Thanks for pointing that out Georg!

Thanks for the tip. Even with all the other great sources for linking, Article marketing is still the way to go. You can build a great deal of traffic, or sales through a good article. So many people don't take the time to do it right that it is an easy way to build great traffic and sales.

As you know, George, to just churn out articles for a very popular site could mean that you do a lot of work for no return as those articles may "lie dead in the water" and nobody reads them, much less clicks on your link. The articles still need to be properly targeted to attract readers. Also, it is possible to do lateral keyword targeting - instead of Dog, think puppy, bitch, canine, etc. Ivan |

MS is a keyword research software. It can help finding niches and "good" keywords. Dont have any relationship with them. There are similar programs, like Keyword Elite etc..

You can use Market Samurai for free and it works great. They have paid portions but I do not use those. After the 7-day trial you are left with just a few of the features but you still have the keyword tool and it's pretty dang cool.
