As my sight continues to fail I am forced to use more mechanical and automated means of communication. If you have an exit pop up do you know that it is costing you business? Over the past few weeks I have noticed that I cannot sign up for information because I use Roboform to fill in my details. To use Roboform I have to move my cursor up to the toolbar. When I move the cursor - guess what happens. The exit pop up pops up with a different offer! Pretty bloody stupid if you ask me. |

You might not like what I say - but I believe it. Build it, make money, then build some more Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

It doesn't only happen if you use roboform, it seems to be triggered but lots of different things, and it is stupid.

I would say "stupid" when you are trying to read the sales page and the exit pop-up comes up because you have moved your mouse to scroll down the page. If I'm looking at a sales page because I want to buy, it doesn't do the person any favours if the pop up comes onto the screen giving a discount to entice me to buy,

| It's actually difficult to test, compared with most things. A lot of people fool themselves by not testing over significant enough numbers to be able to take into account all the people who leave the site and never return, some of whom would have come back later and bought, if not for the exit pop-up. They prefer to imagine that "there aren't really any of those"!

In my case, I HATE popups! They are usually BAD for the visitor, exchanges and some affiliates hate them. Some software fails. Ironically, one stupid company PATENTED exit popups! When other companies REALLY started to affect their business, they started SUING. Not long after that, OTHER exchanges started cracking down on THEM! BTW a REAL exit popup would happen on UNLOAD, and that SHOULDN'T affect roboform. Steve |

The ones that bother me are the ones triggered when you move the mouse outside the browser window. Yes, I MIGHT be going for the back button. But I might also be going for the scroll bar or the form filler to subscribe or buy. I'm not sure I'd classify exit pops as "dangerous", but if executed poorly, they can sure be annoying... and annoying potential customers can't be good for business.
