Best settings for a Popup?

Hi there,

Just wondering if there's any "best practice advice" on Popup settings? We've just installed one on our site and have it set to appear instantly on first visit, and then again as soon as another page is visited, and then not to show for another week.

This seems to be subscribing aprox 20% of all new visits, but we were wondering if appearing "on exit" works better, or to appear after 1 minute when people have had a little chance to look around the site and may be more likely to signup to something? Or which other settings work well?

If there is any advice out there we'd really appreciate it,
