Default Magic, resonance, affiliate marketing...

Back when I was teaching chemistry I kept a collection of materials for simple magic tricks to use as 5-minute fillers and thought provokers. One was to set up a wine glass about one-quarter filled with water. I would balance a dime, match or toothpick on the edge. I would then challenge students to device a way to cause the object on the rim of the glass to move, let's say a quarter inch from its original position.

They couldn't shake the table, blow on the object, or touch the object with anything.

After a few students tried and failed (or broke the rules), I would give it a try. I would pull out a second wine glass, fill it with a similar amount of water, and set it just a couple millimeters from the first glass. I would then wet my index finger and begin rubbing around the rim of the second glass. In a second or two, the glass would begin to hum and a high-pitched ring would come from the glass as it began to vibrate.

The vibrations cause the air around the glass to vibrate and this, in turn, causes the glass with the object on it to vibrate in resonance. This resonance effect causes the object balanced on the rim of the original glass to vibrate and move about the rim a bit.

Now, there are a lot of posts on this forum where beginners talk about the information overload when it comes to affiliate marketing. So here is a tip. Rather then trying to do everything at once, find a marketing technique that "resonates" with you and become an expert in that area. It may be article marketing, CPA marketing, getting top organic listings in the SERPs, PPC, social media marketing, etc. But focus on one specific thing.

Then find a few mentors. Find a few people who are exceedingly good that this type of marketing and shadow them. Opt in to their lists. Follow them on FaceBook, Twitter, and YouTube. Learn every tactic they use and make yourself an expert. The key word is FOCUS.

By surrounding yourself with the experts, you can set up a resonance effect like I talked about with the wine glasses. Learn to leverage their "vibrations", their ripples in the Internet marketing ocean, and like the second glass began to vibrate with the same frequency as the first one, you can begin to "vibrate" with the same frequency as the gurus you follow.

A bit theoretical?--Perhaps, but it may help you get off to a good start by establishing a focus and a relationship with a few good marketers.

That's not chemistry; that's physics. Here I was thinking the solution was going to involve sodium...

Dan, when I was in college I took this physics class at MSU. A long-haired hippie looking guy with raggedy looking jeans walked in. He introduced himself as the TA for the class. He wrote on the board...

Physics is the study of things that go whizzz and bump into each other.

He asked if there were any questions.

When no one raised their hand, he said, "That's all for today. See ya tomorrow."

You're right--that's physics. I'll work on a chemical solution for the trick. And yes, a little sodium might...
