E-Commerce with Wordpress

4 replies
I am building an e-commerce website where we will initially start with 4,000 products. And it will be growing quickly.

Has anybody ever built a professional-looking e-commerce website using Wordpress? I've looked around for E-Commerce Wordpress themes and haven't found much. I've found a few e-commerce plug-ins, but most look cheap.

Maybe Wordpress isn't the way to go, but I wanted to give it a shot if others had done so successfully.

Can you help point me in the right direction to a Wordpress theme or plugin that will look good and support 4,000+ products?

I'm more than willing to pay for it, especially if it's a Warrior product.

Thanks =)

    4,000+ products? Did you just join SMC?

    I hope you can get a list of your products in some type of spreadsheet or database format. If you have to enter each one individually you better set aside A LOT of time.

    I've seen some sites offering lots of products and they seem to be using a combination of wp-e-commerce and NextGen. If you go to wordpress.org you can search the plug-ins for those two.

    Good Luck,

    Dennis

      Wow, 4,000 products... are you converting a Yahoo! store by chance!?

      You can try WP e-Commerce plugin found here WordPress › WP e-Commerce WordPress Plugins plugin, that's certainly one of the best plugin for e-commerce. Not sure how well it will manage that volume though.

        It's actually not a site for myself. I was hired by a company to do this site. They are starting with 4,000 products and eventually moving to 40,000 total.

        I was just toying with the idea of a wordpress ecommerce site in my head but i'm thinking it's probably best not to now.

    I'll be blunt, having a reputable e-commerce site, is key to making money. Spend $39 a-month to start and invest into a yahoo! store. People who buy online, tend to do a double take on who they buy from.

    Having a yahoo! store gives you an advantage. Their setup is very easy and listing your products and the checkout process is also very flawless.
