Default Ebay Scammer facing serious jail time

A York (UK) 25 year old man that sold expensive packages to the Rugby World Cup 2 years ago on Ebay but never delivered anything after taking an estimated £25K ($46K) has been in court after police launched a fraud inquiry. He is charged with fraud and deception against both paypal and Ebay. The case was adjorned to be heard in a higher court due to the seriousiness of it. The defendant will face a hefty jail term if found guilty.

I wonder how they decide which court has jurisdiction.

I believe our magistrates courts have juries whereas the crown court this case was heard in don't and usually hear minor cases usually resulting in fines.
