Default Do you use multiple paypal accounts?

Hi,

I'm hoping to clarify if most Internet marketers use one or more paypal accounts for the sale of online products?

The reason I ask is because I use one paypal business account at present, it's my main business account which I used for an unrelated business "Consolewerks" So now when I sell a IM product the customer will see "product name xyz" but also a vendor name "Consolewerks".

I'm concerned that this vendor name will put people off the sale as it does not match as it has no relation to the product.

So, should I use a different paypal vendor name / paypal account for each unique product or is there a better way to do this?

Thanks for your time.
Lee

If I'm not mistaken, you're only allowed one PayPal account (or risk being terminated). However, if you set up a LLC or other corporation structure, they are separate identities in their own right so you can have one per LLC.

If your current business account name is confusing to your customers, you should either explain to them that they will be charged by "companyname". or set up a LLC to establish a new identity. Or as sousen suggested, open a new PayPal account for another family member (using different bank accounts).

I have a PayPal account and my wife has a PayPal account as well.

Both accounts have a company name tied to them so we can use either account for any online transactions and the account name will fit.

I’ve always just used one paypal account when I use paypal an e-mail address under my own name. It may vary from person to person, but in my business its effective and I’ve never encountered anyone who found it off putting. I don’t really have much use for a pay pal account honestly, as most of my payments are made directly via check and the company I work with handles the processing. I’d use it only in the event I was taking donations for something or selling personal products such as e-books and advertising space in my ezine.

You are only allowed one personal and one business account per person. This may actually be per household, have not read paypal terms in awhile ..lol

TheRichJerksNet is right. You can have one personal account and one premiere or business account.

If your separate businesses are each incorporated, you can have separate business accounts for each of them, as each would be a separate legal entity.

But, if you're just an individual running multiple businesses as a sole proprietorship, you can only have one business account. If possible, you might consider changing the name to the "Your Last Name Group" or something similar to serve as an "umbrella" company. Then you can just say on your website that "ABC IM Products" is a part of the "Smith Group" or whatever.

I have Two PayPal accounts per business venture. One as the primary, one as the backup in case I run into "technical issues." Each one is split up, and have no signs of being connected.

Hey

You can add email addys to your paypal account, im not sure how many but i have 3 for the same reason, the name doesnt tie in with the product.

You just need to create an email addy that suits the product and then add it in your paypal options, then add it to your buttons on your webpages or whatever.

They allow more than one account, but not the same bank or credit card can be used so this allows them to grab money from each of your accounts at anytime and that includes fraudulent chargeback attempts, so Paypal is not merchant friendly, and I have dumped them.

Just be careful

Paypal has been known to cause a few horror stories when they see activity between accounts when you own both. They can be fickle sometimes.

From a buyer's standpoint, I will only buy if there's a paypal alternative. I will not enter my cc info into any form.

Interesting that you were allowed to do this. I have a PayPal account for business and another personal account. When I set up my limited company (UK version of LLC), PayPal turned us down for an account. They said I would have to shut down my business account first, even though I'm not my limited company . We are separate entities as far as the law is concerned, but PayPal regard us as one and the same. The only way the company could have a PayPal account of its own would be if neither I, nor anybody else at the company with a PayPal account in their own name, had access to it. I didn't want to shut down my PayPal accounts as not everything I do goes through the company, so the only way the company can accept PayPal as a payment method is via a third party like 2checkout.com

I believe your mistaken abigailmarketing, as I mentioned in my last post, you can have multiple PayPal email addresses for different lines of business. I even wrote a blog article with screenshot instructions, see If you have a PayPal account, but need to use multiple email addresses because you have different lines of business, you can, let me show you how.*|*Michael Dorings Blog: SEO, Internet Marketing, and Life.

I think you are allowed to have a priemer or business account as well as a personal account. Basically 2 accounts. I am sure people some how make more than that with different emails and bank accounts, but I don't see the point or why someone would want to deal with and manage multiple paypal accounts for the heck of it.

Great thread. Out of what I've read here I appreciate these two answers because they give direct links to PayPal itself - so the answers are straight from PayPal.

Thanks

If you have different businesses, as other people pointed out, would be a smart idea to have multiple accounts. If not mainly for accounting reasons, but legal reasons to, no?

I emailed PP when I first opened mine and they said you can have one personal account and as many business accounts as you have separate businesses. The problem would be if you try to open multiple personal accounts. I think they flag that automatically.

I used to use a personal email address for my paypal...i then switched that to be a professional bsuienss email (payment at xyz.com) and my sales increased 30% overnight. Could be a coincidence but i sincerely doubt it. If selling to other IM people you could get away with a personal email address on Paypal...if selling to general public I can assure you that you WILL lose sales....its very easy to change anyway, simply change your primary email address on the account. It really is that simple.

Impossible for someone to have two paypal account. Paypal do not allow two paypal account to one individual.
Why not you send to the paypal vendor to cancel the previous name and change the name rather than think of have two paypal account.

I think it would be less of a headache and less confusing to have just one Paypal account. Though I don't like the idea of using a business email as the primary, even if you can forward it. I'm a big, "Keep it in one place" person, but the IM business doesn't work that way, does it? Diversify income streams, diversify link structure, diversify business models . . . Right?

Alright, finally i get to help someone. haha

I went through a fair bit to get knowledge of this myself.
So here it is.

You can only have 2 accounts in total attached to YOUR NAME. [not business name]

1 personal and 1 business. [i forgot where the premier fits into this]

Now you can have many email address link to 1 paypal account.
Like if your business is ABC then open an email account that is something to do with ABC, for example XXX@abc.com or abc@gmail.com.

So when they pay they see the email and it makes sense, but when they see the paypal owner, its just the company name that owns the business.

So for example they pay you, they see the email as abc business email but when they go further to check the paypal owner its the company name like "wayne enterprice" or "wayne llc" or "wayne inc" something like that.

So Wayne enterprice for example, owns ABC business. So you can start another business in future XYZ and still collect payment via Wayne enterprice.

thus you cannot have multiple business accounts just by opening different business entities because you still have to link those business names to an owners name.
So im sorry to say that those who said open new business entities are wrong.
No matter how many you open it still links back to the same name which is you, unless u name it under a partner or other family member.

Hope it helps.

I have tested using a personal name on my paypal account and also a business name...so johnsmithathotmail and also purchaseatabscompany. Sales increased by 100% (that is sales doubled) when I started using the purchaseatabccompany. Remember when people check out they see that name blazoned across the screen..people hate to see a professional website and then pay an individual...it looks bad and I have tested it out. It is soooooo simple to change that email address too....just change your primary email address to the more professional one......you WILL see sales increase dramatically.
