Do you guys know what “haterz” are? They’re people who post moronic, profanity-laced comments underneath your videos on YouTube. Hate-filled, negative comments are obviously not good for your business, but I want to give you a couple strategies for completing disarming these idiots, so that you’ll never use them as an excuse to not market on YouTube. This goes on elsewhere of course – most notably in the blogosphere or anywhere public comments are allowed online – but I’m going to focus on YouTube in this post because that’s where I make my living. First of all, I feel very strongly about this issue because it’s my belief that negativity can stop creativity, absolutely. Don’t get me wrong – I’m a huge advocate of free speech, but there’s no reason you need to put up with the irrelevant negativity that can hurt your business. Okay, the way I USED to deal with this problem was by simply not allowing comments to be posted underneath my YouTube videos. But this isn’t ideal, because the majority of comments are good and legitimate, and those can HELP your cause. So it’s smart to consider another course of action. The GOOD news is that you have a LOT of power when it comes to controlling the content on your YouTube channel. You might not know this, if you’ve never uploaded a video onto YouTube, but here is what you can do. TIP No. 1 – When uploading your video, you have some options to choose in your settings. What I recommend is allowing ratings (allowing people to rate your video, from 1 to 5 stars), and then allowing comments only upon your approval. This means comments from others will only show if you approve the comment. Obviously, this will take care of the haterz before they have a chance to make themselves shown on your YouTube page. TIP No. 2 – Here is another option. Allow all comments but then delete the negative ones and (here’s the great part), ban that person from ever posting underneath that video again. Yes, that’s right: with one click of a button, you can block that person completely and never hear from them again! Simple and perfect. Anyway, that’s how I handle this issue. Let me know what you think, or if you have other ideas on this topic that I might be able to use. Thanks. -Tim Gilberg |

It's amazing to me the things that people will say online that they would never say to someone's face. I'm in a niche that generally has very "nice" people, but I've seen things get pretty heated when I conducted an online discussion group as part of a new product I released. (It was kind of like an online class.) Anyway, good tips, thanks. |

Hey, let them hate. Either you'll connect with the people who watch the video or you will not. It doesn't really hurt to get negative comments, except for 1 comment that I remove + block and that is "This is a scam". That is the only comment I will remove, basically. - Chris |

I don't care what people post in the comments on my videos, unless they make an outright false claim. Why should I care? Positive comments, negative comments, it's all good to me.
