What is spamming in terms of Internet?

What does it mean by the Spamming? I could not understand this term till now. What is it and how can we avoid it. Who are the spammers, and how do they affect.

spam ios anything that takes away from the experience or wastes time with no added value. it is different on different mediums.

Email, unsolicited, or overly promotional email. it is ok to occasionaly promote,but if that is all you do,it is spam, opt in or not does not really matter.

blogs and social sites. leaving comments with no value, just one line statements with no value to the conversation for the sole purpose of a link. also linking to totaly unrelated content .

I am sure there is more, but there is a quick run down of the big ones.

I have posted a new thread last time on a forum containing the contents of the my website and it has been spammed by the moderator. Why is that so? Even the thread I have posted was relevant to the category of the forum. Marketing Category.

on forums, you have to be careful with thier rules and regulations. many do not allow links or promotions for other websites. You may have violated the TOS with the forum you where on. you should contact the moderator to find out what you did wrong.
