What is bookmarking and how do I do it? So I have not yet done what they call 'social bookmarking'. It seems to be a popular thing to do to generate backlinks. So what is the go? How do you do it? Do you just register an account with someone then bookmark every url that you have? Peter |

Ohh I see that people offer bookmarking services etc. Are there any highly reccommended services that people can advise. What about cost etc. And does the bookmarking think work? Does it make a difference to SERP's? |

Sorry for the noobish question. I know what is social bookmarking, but what is backlink? What does it do to help promote your site? |

Social bookmarking helps sites index faster in Google and other search engines. Search Engine Robots are a frequent visitors to "Social Bookmarking" sites in search of new stories and data to index. There are plenty of "Automated Social Bookmarking Services" out there. But manual bookmarking is the most suggested and the most effective of them all. All you have to do is to sign up with a popular (and high traffic) social bookmarking site and not only share (bookmark) every URL you have but also share some URL's which contains valuable and informative data. "Social Bookmarking" in simple terms is to share links of stories or any other informations which you think will be useful for others. Along with you business links, you can post some wonderful video pages, interesting wallpaper links, games links, entertainment links, facts about various things and other stuff not related to your business. These activites gives your bookmarking profile a little bit more weight than just "Business resources links"... Hope this helps... |

There are two free sites that help you get several bookmarks fast and easy. One is socialmarker.com and the other is onlywire.com (free if you link to them) I recommend you use one of those sites. I am actually working on a video lesson about bookmarking for my course. If you PM me, I'll let you look at it. zapp99 - backlinks are links to your site from other sites. The more backlinks you have - the better you will rank in search results. |

There are several social bookmarking services, the most popular ones are: - digg - stumbleupon - propellor - mr wong - stumble this - mixx - etc There are ALOT of such services. Previously, Google had an emphasis on such sites. From what I see now, the emphasis on it is reduced by Google. I have no evidence though, just my own observation and opinions. HOWEVER, it is still great to use them as leverage: 1) They add real 'hype' and buzz by the community if your content is really good 2) They do give backlinks when people bookmark or vote them up. In case you are confused as to how they will provide backlinks.. - Lets say you submit a website to a social bookmark (Site A). - Site A is now listed in the social bookmark site, and people can view it anytime. - Let's say User A loves Site A, and clicks on the "vote it up" button OR "bookmark this site into my social bookmark account". - Now what this does is, it leaves a backlink for User A on his social bookmark account that helps him remember Site A. It will register as a backlink. And we all love backlinks here don't we? ![]() Just hope this may help clear up any confusion by anybody. Not trying to act smart here, of course. |

I either use socialposter.com or socialmarker.com when bookmarking my sites. But in socialmarker.com, the page takes time to load sometimes... |
