Default Google Keyword Tool - Exact or phrase

Good day,

Its a terrible day here in South Africa with heavy rain and hectic winds, so I have decided to do a little keyword research.

I am using this tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal But I am not sure what is better to use, phrase or exact. I normally use the exact option but I have found one keyword that has me stumped.

On the exact search it says the keyword gets 58 searches a month, but then on phrase it says 2,400.

So my question is what does this mean? Should I try it out? Has any ones ever had this and did they try it?

Thanks

Default Re: Google Keyword Tool - Exact or phrase

well, no mysteries here.

Works as intended. Using exact you specify exactly that and nothing else as search term, using phrase it still could have something appended.

Eg. Phrase "the weather" might get zillions of searches because it is included in "the weather in LA", "the weather in XYZ" or whatever other search term where "the weather" is included.

You can use EXACT if you know exactly the keyword and want to trigger the keyword, and nothing else. You can use phrase to broaden this a bit..but the more broad your keyword...the less targeted your audience.

It is good to start out using only EXACT, and then when adgroups work out you can try adding phrase and see how it goes.

Thank you, I thought it would be that simple but glad that you reassured me.

Thanks
