How Do I get locals to a Website

I want to attract women in my metropolitan area to my site to buy designer ( replica) purses. Could I get some ideas as to how to attract the required traffic? I do not want to use the usual methods to get web traffic because for obvious reasons I want my web page to be kinda of underground.

you want to advertise locally, then big banner ad would do, but the best to advertise online with attractive banner into google adword and target the area you want for example " metropolitan "

the thing is the good banner attract the woman to click.

    -newspaper-
-search your city name on twitter-
-tell a female friend on facebook that you'll give her a purse if she tells all of her friends you're giving one away.
    -creative use of craigslist :-)
-find a really gossip ridden church

...that's what I have on the top of my head..

I've had the most success with making little stick em's (thats what I call them) with my website and offer at busy intersections. They are tiny signs that you just jam in the ground. LOTS of dating affiliates with CPA programs made a KILLING by putting those up everywhere with local neighborhood domain names like the suburbs of a major city like www.SUBURBNAMElocalsingles.com.

How about a letter box drop with your website and contact details on it?

My other half also sells jewellery and scarves, and she has had great success spreading the word about her products by selling her products at local markets, and ALWAYS giving away a cute little business card with the website URL and contact details, whenever someone makes a purchase or expresses interest.

Sounds like you are stacking up trouble for yourself there. If you don't want to draw attention to yourself (for those "obvious reasons"), it's going to be hard to promote yourself.

And s**s law says that it's you, the small timer, who will be first to be found and prosecuted by the designer companies and/or trading standards (or whatever is the equivalent in your country!

Maybe you should sell something that you CAN promote freely.

I see those signs everywhere! One question - is there a risk of getting in trouble with the law for putting those signs up? I know it's got to be a violation of local ordinances - you're generally going to be putting those signs on city property.

The facebook idea above is fantastic.

Other than online methods or the ones mentioned above:

    -Leaflets in shops
    -Cork boards
    -Bandit signs across the city

One thing you want to make sure to do is to capture the details of as many visitors to your website as you can to build your list.

If it is local have you tried some offline marketing?
For example create small papers with a description of your website and leave in shoestores or outlets...??

Have you heard about the Google Local Business Center?

    http://www.google.com/local/add/anal...gl=US&hl=en-US

It's free and is perfect for targeting local search engine traffic through google.

Since you said you want your site to remain "underground", this may not be your best option because you could end up at the top of the search engine. But, if you want to drive laser targeted local traffic to your site, this is your best option IMO.
