How I got my Spouse involved in IM

My wife is starting to get interested in the IM Game and is fully supportive of me 'messing around' on the computer. Although she doesn't quite understand everything, I am helping to educate her by helping her build her own site.

I let her pick a topic she could write about, then showed her what a keyword was and all about how we need to "Niche" it down to something we could "rank" for. I started up Micro Niche Finder and showed her what to look for, and we settled on a 'keyword phrase' that was available in exact TLD.

I then set her loose on a 'free Word press theme' site for her to pick out her own theme. Then asked her to write some 'articles' based on other 'long tail' keywords to post on her 'blog'. I set everything else up for her, the WP, Adsense, affiliates etc...

She only started the site 2 weeks ago, but has 3 pages of 'real' content written by her, and she has also written 3 articles which I submitted to EZA, all honest articles written by her without IM in mind.

The Results: Her site has already been indexed and sits at #11 for her main keyword phrase (4400 exact searches, SOC 21) she is targeting. She got her first 'click' for $0.27 cents yesterday and SHE IS THRILLED !!!

Looks like I have a partner now, in more then just my life, but in the IM Game as well.

I keep trying to help my wife to understand what I do, but she just can't seem to get it. I've given up on trying to give her something to do to help my business. Now she is just a supporter.

      Congratulations!

I keep trying to get my wife into this stuff but I just don't think its going to happen.

Making money together seems to me would bring you to a new level of closeness. I don't know maybe I'm just dreaming.

      Rob,

I know the feeling, getting her to 'understand' is much more difficult then getting her to 'help'. But let's face it, the IM game is not the easiest thing to just jump right in to. It takes time to comprehend everything.

Just ask her to help out in some small part. Have her write a short article 300-400 words on ANY topic, then show her how to submit it to an article directory and Link the resource box to one of your sites. That way she feels like she has contributed and from then on its all downhill :-) This is especially effective if you can somehow show her how it produced a 'click' or a sale for you...

It took me two years to figure it out. Right now, she is at least submitting my articles for me. That helps a bit.

        Mmfh,

Don't give up. I have learned a lot from my wife about IM and she doesn't even know it. I use her as a resource for my next 'Niche'. She has given me many ideas that I would not have thought of on my own.

Also, I have learned alot about the 'average' surfer out there looking for information, especially about products. Those of us who are in this 'game' often forget who our target audience is and how they surf. We tend to think that the rest of the population is just like us, when it is far from the truth.

Example, my wife didn't have a clue what the 'Ads' were about off to the side of Google. She has NEVER clicked on them, but she freely clicks on them when prominently displayed on a website, not hidden off to the side on the menu (hint, hint).

Also, she rarely reads what the website description is on Google, just clicks the first link, then the second, then third etc... (which shows the importance of high rankings)

Like I already mentioned, just have her do something small to start with, then work on bigger things SLOWLY...

We sometimes don't think of certain niches but ideas from people who have no idea what we do are often valuable. Thats why we talk about my business a lot even though she doesn't understand it.

I think that you need to encourage her focusing on her strenghts if she is a good writer why you don't ask her to write articles for you to submit (just an example) so instead of dividing her energy on topics that she dosnt understand its better taht she does what she is good at like that she can make you and herself money

    just a hamble opinion

anyway good luck to you both

Her skills are more administrative than artistic.

thats why she's submitting them and not writing them.

    We'll build from there.

Good for her, and you! It's kind of fun sharing your knowledge with your spouse. I'm trying to do the exact same thing with my husband. You both can really learn a lot by doing that. Plus it's so exciting when your 'student' actually makes some money, even a small amount can mean so much. It's kind of addicting isn't it?

      Ms. Liz,

Yes, it is very addicting. We are sitting down together right now trying to find the right keyword phrase for her next website :-)

    Hi Michael,
    Cool name you have there

    It's a great feeling isn't it!

My wife is more involved with my off line business ventures although since
you discussed Keyword research I thought you might find this both
    coincidental and amusing.

Earlier today I posted to a thread about some Keyword research my wife
    and I did together. :p

This is an inspiring story. My wife wants to help me with IM. I think this is a very good way to get her started.

My Rieko is doing all my typing and has learned a ton about IM just from what she types. I'm hoping to bring her along to Atlanta next January for NAMS. Then she can get in with a large crowd of marketers and she can field questions while I'm busy with my workshops.
