MS Word question- resizing page

Hey, hopefully someone will save me a whole heap of time by knowing a way to do this!

I've got a 90 page document that I need to sumbit in PDF format. It's all spaced out properly with an index that isn't hyperlinked.

I now find out that I need to sumbited the PDF in a different page size! I can change the page size but the font stays the same size and the page number increases and chapters aren't on the pages they originally were on.

Other than manually re-editing the entire document, is there a way for me to change the page size but keep all the rest of the document the same?

I don't have photoshop- I was opening the word doc in open office and pdfing it.

    Not sure why you have to resize it, but if you make your Index clickable in Word and make sure your format is correct it will open correctly in Open Office and convert to a PDF.

    I've never had to resize one and we do many each week.

      I'm guessing you are sending this off to a printer, which is why you need something other than A4?

      Ultimately, I think you'll find manual editing is the quickest option. It's a pain, but by the time you've played around with other options, you'll just have wasted a whole heap of time and achieved nothing.

        If you build your Table of Contents with the Word TOC option AND use Styles for your headings, you would never have this happen. It's very easy to do, but you do have to learn how. If you are going to be writing a lot, this is a must.

        This is essentially how it works. When you build a Table of Contents with the TOC function in Word, the program looks for Header1, Header2 and Header3, Styles to fill it with. You can edit the specifics so only the headings you want show up. You can also edit the layout of the Table of Contents.

        So, you can go back through your document, select the headings, and apply the appropriate Heading Style you would like to have in the Table of Contents. These are all editable and you can do what you want with it. Once you've done that, Insert your TOC and it will pick up all the headings and page numbers correctly. As you move things around or add/remove content, the Table of Contents is updated automagically!

        I love Word! It's really a desktop publishing software but Mr. Gates in all his wisdom knew he would sell more copies by calling it a Word Processing software.

        I'm sure you can Google more specific info but, in my opinion, do it right the first time (or second in this case) and you won't have to do it again, even if the publisher changes their mind.

          Open Office has the same type of feature. It was a pain for me though. Maybe someone else knows more about it.

    It's for a book that I originally wrote as an ebook that I want to get printed as a proper book. That's way I never indexed the contents page (hadn't got rounf to writing it) and wasn't going to do so.

    I had written it orignally in Word on normal size pages. The printer needs the pdf pages to show up as a different size (5.25 x8 inches instead of 8.5 x 11)

    Agh, I'm starting to think it's gonna be the old manual way

    Simple solution.

    Open up the document in word

    File

    Page Setup

    Paper

    A5 or manually change the size

    OK

    This will give you what you need when you open it in Open Office for a PDF

      Yeah, it changes the page size but then drasticlly increases the amount of pages and, for instance, something that was on page 44 may now be on page 48.

      I guess I was wondering if there was something to essentially shrink/adapt the words on the page so that the same words would stay on the same page despite the size...

      I think I may have been a little hopeful there!

    You are trying to be hopeful there, it won't happen unless you shrink your font size.

    But if you have an automatic page number and have an automatic TOC then it shouldn't make any difference
