If I edit my EZA...

I have seen threads about this before but hadn't seen a definitive answer for my specific situation. I realized that a 260ish word article I have up only has the exact long tail phrase in the title and once in the article. If I edit the article to add another instance of the word, will I be "ok" as far as my article retaining position/backlink count? Is adding one instance of the keyword even worth this?
