Content Thief - This Fool Thinks He Got Away With It

It's funny, I was just reading a thread here yesterday about content stealing and while I've had a few articles stolen, I usually shrug it off as the cost of promoting stuff on the web.

Well, that is until today. Now I KNOW how some of you feel who've had your site content ripped off.

I was sitting here doing some casual keyword research using stats from one of my niche sites - this site is in the diet niche. I have several well written reviews on their for specific clickbank books, and it regularly converts sales.

Okay, so I do what I normally do, paste the keyword phrase into google, then look at the results and competition.

I happened to notice an article on go articles that had some familiar content. I clicked on the article and - ah! I saw my site content copied word for word. Not only that, but when I clicked onto the url in the article, that led to a blog that also contained my exact content.

I was pissed!

It's one thing to steal an article - I can always write more. But steal my site content - Oh no you didn't.

So I easily found his whois info and have sent him a stern message to take down my content now. I also cc'd his registrar, go articles, wordpress.org and clickbank.

Okay, then I find that someone (not sure if it's the same guy because they use an alias) has been busy stealing 8 pages of my content (same review site) and creating press releases with it. Found all of them on prlog. Luckily prlog has an abuse link where people can be reported for this kind of theft.

Man!

I've been really busy for the past 2 hours taking care of these thieves. I'll teach them to mess with me. I'm usually a nice person, but DON'T EVER STEAL MY SITE CONTENT!

ARRRGGHHHH!

    Good for you Donna, that you took action. This sort of thing really burns me. We need to fight back every time we catch this happening. It might not stop them, but will definitely make it a bit more difficult for these thieves.

      I heard about a script recently that you can place on your lander to prevent thievery if you're selling affiliate products. When they change the affiliate links in your page to their own affiliate links it will automatically switch it back to yours. That way they're just getting you free money without realizing it. Might be worth looking into.

        I had article content stolen too. It is a real problem and content thieves should not be allowed to get away with it because they will just continue to do it. If they want to use other peoples articles, then they need to give them credit and leave the resource box intact. In my case he removed the resource box and took complete credit for the article. He also did it to someone else who contacted the thief and received a reply saying that by changing a few words here and there it was no longer the same so he could take credit for it.

        I think that any instance of content theft like this (whether just an article or actual web page content) should be reported to try to keep it down so the original authors get the credit.

          A good reason to put your content into articles etc yourself. That way people will have a harder time stealing them. It does suck when it happens though, but that's just the way IM is.
