That was the subject line I got in my email from paypal just a little while ago. It came just 24 hours after I emailed my small list with 3 websites I have with paydotcom hoping to get 1 order so I can get $37 into my paypal account to get into the war room. At first I was excited when I got the email and didn't know where I should check first either the email they just sent me from paypal(that's the exact subject line they use) or should I log into my paypal account to see if I have enough to get into the war room. I decided to open the email first and found it was a fake. It wasn't paypal. I then noticed it wasn't their email address either It was some marketer selling a MMO ebook. Normally I wouldn't care what a marketer does but that was annoying as I was expecting an order. It was spam email too. I am not on this persons list. But they got me to open it right away so its one heck of a powerful subject line. So the war rooms on hold for now. That son of a ..... ![]() So The Question Is - WOULD ANYONE USE THIS SUBJECT LINE WITH THEIR OWN LIST OF PEOPLE just to try to get more people to open your email? Mike |

No It's pathetic. A desperate attempt to fool your reader into opening. If you can't think of honest and creative subjects for your mail to get it opened, then you really should think about another line of work. Because deception will get you into a bad place. Peace Jay |

I see this all the time, along with "Echeck payment notification" and so forth. It's sad really. |

If the subject is misleading then it's spam, pure and simple.

Hi guys i remember trying out listjoe.com a while ago and many of them in the community used to break the rules by putting in the title - list joe new rules please read or list joe announcement so its not a new thing. Its really annoying though and because of how much it actually annoys you i doubt it will get any sales even though it will get plenty of opens. I am sure they can go down in history as having the lowest conversion rates! kind regards sam X |

I got it too. I didn't open it - just selected it as spam and blocked the domain. This sort of spam is offensive and idiotic. Some people have no ethics and will do anything to try and scratch some cash from a naive person who mistakes their crap for a proper email. |

Ethics aside, that kind of subject line is plain stupid: people don't like to be cheated! You can't expect to cheat them and ask them to get their wallet a second after.

While the purpose of a headline is to get you to open the email, none of us have that as our END goal. With this headline you won't get people to take the next step of reading your email, clicking your link and buying your product. Don't confuse optimizing one step of the sales process with optimizing the end result. I have seen it happen in the manufacturing industry too. people will optimize their individual process with no thought to how it impacts the total process. Your goal is to convert prospects into customers. This headline sure won't do it. If anything it will drive them away from you in droves. Avoid it at all costs. |

IIRC, those kinds of subject lines are a violation of Can Spam. Plus, there is a very strong possibility such an email could be reported as phishing....mucho trouble. Wouldn't do it myself unless a gun was pointed at my head....that's asking for major trouble. |

Anytime I get any kind of Notification of Payment type headline, if I recognize it for what it is I delete it. If it is not already delivered in my spam box, I will mark it as spam. I can't imagine anyone remotely successful thinking this is okay. Getting people to open emails is just one part of the equation. This destroys all credibility. Robyn |

I have seen those as well, and opened the emails.I think it is unethical to send emails like that and completely destroys the marketers credibility.

It is a desperate call for help. Its pathetic, stupid and silly. Very immature and this marketer should know better. He should simply quit and get a job.

This kind of thing used to be my job! In my last job I was in charge of running the company's constant contact account. It was my job to create, send, and manage (spam) email. The admin assistants would copy email addresses from the web, paste them to a spread sheet and I would import the spread sheet into constant contact, of course lying about the emails being from an opt-in list. Then I would create emails and send them out. I would meet with my boss about effective from and subject lines. For Example, if the email was going to schools we would say that the email was from the "District Office" and the subject we be "Updates to the science curriculum." It only went down from there. Surprisingly constant contact hasn't shut them down yet and they have been doing this for the past 4 or so years. I am no longer with the company. |

A very close cousin to this type of title is "Here's your download info" or "You've just made a sale" and then the email goes on to explain that this is what you'll see in your emails when you BUY this or that program. This I find deceptive because for sure it will increase your open rates but not your conversion rates for sure. Again, people who are thinking short term don't mind upsetting their subscribers along the way. -Ray Edwards |

This kind of crap is right up there with subject lines that say the message is 'personal', when it is anything but. I often see this kind of garbage from wannabee marketers who think it makes them look cutting edge. It doesn't. Martin |

I am getting these type of emails from the last 1 year. The headline is completely misleading. It is clearly spamming. |

You should take the spammer's name and email address out of your subject line -- like most Warrior threads, this one is already indexed and you're just giving him publicity (probably not that much, but still).

The first time I recieved an email like that, quite a while ago, I opened it. Clearly a spammer... But that was the last time. I just delete those emails, now. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me... |

Ahh, That's pathetic. I get people sending offers to my billing email address. The only thing this is used for is sending out invoices. The emails always have opt out forms - but I am quite clear that I never opted in, as I don't even have that account set up in anything - its just a robo mail box... |
