UK Warriors: Publishing To The Kindle???

Has anyone found a solution to this crazy ass restriction?

Amazon don't let you publish to the Kindle if you are in the U.K.

The peeps at AmazonUK are not exactly well versed on the topic either. Having spent the best part of this afternoon on the phone to them, trying to come to some sort of agreement..... I think it is safe to say that most of them don't have a clue if it's ever making it to the UK!!!

I know there was talk of a European release of the Kindle....

Any UK Warriors, or U.S., have any info??

I'm sure you can all see how lucrative this could be for any digital publisher.

Peace

Jay

Someone once took my free ebook and was selling it as their own on the Kindle site for 99 cents. It took me a while to get through to Amazon and complain. The UK support line told me they did not support the Kindle books. The US support line was hopeless and they did not seem to know what the Kindle was.

In the end by chance I came across a forum where Amazon respond to issues. Eventually they removed my book, although I am unsure if any action was ever taken against the seller.

I recently read that the Kindle was to be sold in the UK so hopefully they will allow ebooks to be sold soon.

Yeah...I'm fairly certain it is selling here...

But the publishing issues still remain... or at least I thought so...

A kind warrior did just PM me a little info and is going to feed me some more as they dig deeper

This question is asked almost daily on the Amazon forum Amazon DTP Support : Support Home. To date I am not aware of anyone country outside of the U.S. being able to publish for the Kindle yet. There are a couple companies in the U.S. that will sell your book for you, but I am not sure what they charge. If you are interested I could search the forum to try to find them.

        I'm not selling anything.

I have trying to find the solution too.

Here is one of the reply

          Dear Publisher,

Thanks for your interest in publishing for kindle.

Please note that at present, only publishers with US billing address and bank account are able to setup account on Amazon DTP. We are working towards enabling non US publishers to setup accounts on DTP, however, I am unable to comment on when exactly it will be extended to our international publishers, I would suggest you to check our website regularly for any update on this.

Thanks again for your interest in Amazon DTP.

I asked some weeks ago when they announced the 'international Kindle' for most countries - and I am still awaiting any response!

The fact that you currently need a US billing address and bank account has knocked my plans a bit. I was going to try and get a few ebooks listed

I think that the one currently on sale in the UK is actually the US version underneath. I don't think that a real UK version has been produced yet, but the situation does not seem particularly clear.

Oh no I stay in the US and my visa does not allow me to work it is dependant visa(on my husbands) so I cannot get a SSN. This means I cannot publish in kindle. I got to get thinking about JV here.

If you can't resolve the situation, I would simply partner with somebody in the US you can trust in a JV fashion, piggyback their US based address, SSN and bank account.

I have a JV with a guy in the states now on similar terms, I found getting a US Merchant account a pain in the ass as they didn't favour my UK company bank account, now I partner succesfully with a US colleague.

      Always an option.

And anyone you partner with will have to pay taxes based on your sales, not theirs. Why do you think Amazon need the SSN? They report all sales to the government.

Yes they have to pay taxes, and I'm fully aware of how a SSN works as that's how I do business with my partner. Suffice to say , the problem exists in my set up as well and it's really rather easy to resolve if you think about it, I'll happily explain via PM if the lightbulb hasn't come on , much like your backdoor discussion, I'm not prone to discussing taxation issues in the same vein on a public forum.

I was going to send you a PM about boosting my flickering lightbulb before it blows, but I can't seem to send one. Not enough messages or something.

So would it be possible for you to PM me?

        Hey Simon..

Great idea, although I had already considered it and found it to be a no-go (all my people in the U.S. are Kindle publishing already).. I think I have found a way in

YES, it DOES have only a Black and White display! According to what I heard, COLOR displays DON'T EXIST yet! Their display is "electronic paper". It is about where the average LCD was in the 1980s!

Even the new NOOK is ONLY B&W! They ADVERTISE color, but read the fine print. It is only a little display used only for navigating.

Power consumption is a bit different from 1980s LCDs though.

Yeah. Even Color LCDs probably use more power than B&W LCDs.

LCDS work by using current to deform crystals. Once you take away the power, they go back! The electronic paper works like an etch a sketch, and engraves the picture into the display. It doesn't need power to maintain it. That means slower and less capable, but it generally requires less power.

Yeah! The Etch A Sketch toy was invented in the late 1950s by French electrician André Cassagnes.[2] !

Then again, the first CPU was relegated to be used as a CALCULATOR! A SIMPLE one!
