I'm a motion graphic artist at a public television station and I'm first started looking at IM as an extra source of income but looking through a lot of sites, I see a lot of videos. Is there a market for the type of work that I do? I usually do commercials for local companies and for other tv shows in my area. Is it worth investing in the set up to start something in the IM market? I suppose I should do my due diligence and do some research eh? Here is my latest demo reel. Thanks for any feedback. I'd suggest researching the "Who's Who" of IM...not going to name names here - they're easy enough to find. Your talent could take a high-profile IMer to the next level. IMHO.

You have the skills to make high-quality custom videos for some of the higher tier marketers for hundreds or even thousands of dollars. It probably wouldn't take very long to find work either. By the way, you have a very nice demo reel |

Sherman, What's your hourly rate! Nice Demo reel! I never could find a really good video guy, everyone seems to be a bit basic. I like your stuff though, make a few videos on the cheaper side to introduce yourself, and get feedback and your on your way. |

Awesome work Sherman (I assume you're the Sherman mention in the video? ) You can have people knocking down your door for video intros and trailers! That's some great stuff. May I ask what software you use? |

Hi Sherman, Take a look at this WSO from fellow warrior Joshril. http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...e-reviews.html With your skills combined with his methods, and marketing, you will most likely blow away your day job salary fairly quickly. Joshril over delivers on his material and knowledge, and for $27 with a one year guarantee, this really is a no brainer. Keep me posted if you do follow this path. I would love to outsource some video projects to you in the future! Best Regards, ~ JoeCool |

I havent' quite sorted out a rate yet. But looking at some responses i think it might be a little to much for the IM crowd. My last freelance project that cost $500 for a local business. They ran it on MSNBC and on google ads. The price included the voice over, storyboards, animation and sound FXs. (Sorry deleted the link, I did this via a second party, and I'm not allowed to post the link, I have to get permission) I'll do some research on creating something cheap and affordable and still profitable. That might work for the IM crowd. My goal is to find something on the side to make a few extra hundred a month, local jobs are few and far between. I like the idea from tomsmart80 about making some 2 min ad videos for youtube. I'll look into that as well. Thanks guys!

Great looking work Sherman! This is the Dollar Store crowd, so I'm not sure that there's a mass market here, but I think you will be able to find some jobs. There are some folks who do make money and outsourcing is the name of the game. |

Like others said, find the big fish and e-mail them your demo's, leave a message that if they need any good video work done to contact you, you might land a few good jobs.

Ooohhh. Nice videos Sherman! For some passive income, you can create Adobe After Effects motion graphics that can be used as templates for us, less skilled video creators. Thereafter, you can sell them on websites like Flash Components - ActiveDen. The quality of your work will destroy the templates currently being sold on that site. Heck, I've bought templates that are remotely as beautiful as what you have created. I'd say "good luck" but you've got mad skills and you just need the right opportunity in the online field. |

You may want to consider posting your services at some of the market sites like Freelance.com, guru.com, odesk.com. I am sure you could find some clients from there as well.

OMG, are you serious? With your knowledge of graphic arts you could create great copy and market yourself in ways that others, without that talent, can't hope to. Your skill set is very unique, however people are primarily visual learners and so can relate to the stimulation of video. Because of this, you will be able to create copy and a marketable product that has a creative uniqueness that will separate you from others. You just need to bear in mind that your experience does not guarantee success, you need to have a good product to market and be able to spin it well. However I wouldn't be too worried, especially w/ your experience in working on commercials. If you take that experience and focus it towards what you want to promote, with the professionalism and creativity of commercial production, you'll have a product that very few will be able to replicate (without outright stealing your copy). -J |

Choose a product or subject that you are really passionate about, take a few courses on IM and you will do extremely well with the skills you already have. Your work is amazing. If you want to do something with me, I am game.

I recommend putting some kind of watermark through out your youtube video because freelancers will claim that as theirs and once a possible client looks at your portfolio and see's the same video everyone else is using they are going to be like "well, another scammer or person with no skill." Your work is very impressive. Not something I say too often with my kind of ego, but seriously you've inspired me to make my videos of higher quality when it comes to graphics. |

Sherman, IMHO you should put the "art has something to say" clip upfront. Not at the end. It's great. Of course there's a market for your work. Video marketing is only getting bigger. |

You might search for independent film organizations/producers/forums/graphic artists etc. for leads and ways to get your name out there. Topic search on Twitter, sign up at Meetup.com and find meetings in your area for freelance people like yourself to network with. You need to sniff out the work and get some exposure and Meetup alone could be your Golden Ticket. Heck, how about teaching a class on what your doing? 101 on up.Training videos WSO!, online webinar, sell on Kunaki...I've Vegas and After Effects but, find them overwhelming. I should take a training class too ![]() GL John |

Hi Sherman - fantastic body of work. I imagine that you could find quite a bit of work with some of the higher end marketers. I'd also recommend using what you learn on here to market and promote yourself. Finally, someone mentioned AE templates. I think thats a good idea as well. |

WOW!!! And you had to ask if there's a market for what you're doing on line? I was expecting good from the other comments. Good doesn't come close. You're out of my price range, but pick any of the big IM names out there and send them your demo. If you can package your transition action scripts for sale, that'll make you quite a few dollars as well, I'm sure. Absolutely!! Go for it!! |

Wow, I absolutely love your work. I can definitely think of a few ways that your stuff can be incorporated into an IM business, or in any business for that matter. However I'm not sure if it has been suggested because I don't have the time right now to read through (my apologies) but you could open a membership website teaching people how to do that? Or sell your services, or start your own business basically accepting orders from people for what they want and filling those orders. All three of those ideas would incorporate your unique skill and I am sure you could make a killing since video marketing becoming so popular.

I join the applause line. That is some very cool, stylish, slick artwork there, Sherman! A few things come to mind. As a customer, who doesn't get anything for the referral, I recommend you check out Andrew Cavanagh's gold package (offlinebiz.com). He has some material about video marketing online for local businesses. If you could export Web graphics as well, or collaborate with print and Web designers, that could be a high-end graphics package. You could sell it yourself, or provide an outsourced service for other marketers who get the clients and split the income with you. Do you also edit? Could marketers with a pile of footage send it to you and get back a well produced segment with music and narration? Do you have any interest in shooting or directing on location? Could you export your level of graphics to Powerpoint for presenters at corporate events? It seems there is an endless demand for Photoshop tutorials. Could you make how-to videos where you explain your techniques? Chris |

Sherman, You have great stuff. I am an offline marketer, and right now video is very hot among my clients. One of my referral sources is a web development firm that does video production. Their quality is not bad, but they get $2,500 for 2 min videos. My video skills are not that great, so when I need a good product video or customer testimonial video done I outsource it to them. Their price makes some of my smaller clients shy away, even thought they would love to do it. If you think you can do things at a better price point there are many offliners in this forum that could use your talents, including me. |

Your work definitely kicks things up a notch video quality wise. There is a market for what you do and judging by some of the comments here, it confirms it. Why don't you place your demo reel on youtube? You'll be surprised at how many artists get work and exposure from youtube. Just saw your website, your rates are really reasonable and there's no reason why you won't do well. I've bookmarked your site for some future project's I'm working on. Good luck. |
