    I just listened to this. Am I understing correctly that if you have a review blog you have to say something like "Here is a link to buy this product. If you buy through this link I will make money from the sale" ??

    That seems pretty crap as I am sure it will encourage people to type product into seach and bypass your link.

    Richard Cleland @ FTC - "I don't think that the average customer would think that Jared's results were typical".
    Somebody from the FTC must be monitoring the warrior forums, because I just brought that up like 2 days ago here. That's a very strange coincidence, imo.

    Richard Cleland @FTC - There may be some industries where you can't make performance claims because you just don't know how this product is going to be used or how it is going to be performed. You may have to rely primarily on [b]satisfaction testimonials.

    Jim Edwards (Interviewer) - But what if someone actually uses it and gets results?

    Richard Cleland @FTC - That has no relevance to what someone else can expect from the product.
    I think this is where it hits him. At this point he knows that he will lose a lot of money because of these new regulations and there just isn't any way around it. I'm surprised that he didn't already know this. Him being a successful marketer I expected him to keep up with what's going on.

    If I have a weight loss product and I use someone who has lost 10 pounds in a couple of months versus 100 pounds in two months. One is an obvious lightning rod the other is close enough to the line where it could in fact be a typical result.
    That gives me some hope that internet marketers can still use some results based testimonials. However, what he said about stale testimonials was strange.

    He also mentioned **** Berry an awful lot.

    Wow, he let this guy (Cleland) just rip through all of his sites. I can't believe Edwards still had all those testimonials up.

    They're still not very clear...He said...It depends on case by case basis. But the best bet would be not to use performance oriented testimonials.

      That sounds about right to me. Jim Edwards tried to get a little wiggle room out of Cleland by buttering him up, but I can tell he was pissed when realized he had to get rid of all his testimonials.

      What's so funny is that customers don't know anything about these new FTC rules so they will still look for testimonials before making a purchase.
