Trader Rating Anyone?

I know it's been discussed in the past but it probably wasn't implementable with the old script... Now that we use vbulletin wouldn't it be awesome if we had the ebay style trader rating for each warrior?

It would certainly help improve security and general confidence in dealing with people over time and would help flag the jerks.

If some say it would mean more work for admin - it could be done as on DP forums - admin does not fix trader ratings so if you do get a negative rating you have to live with it.

I think it would be a great feature on the forum.

What is trader rating? What is it for?

No - too easy to manipulate and not useful. One of the best things you can learn on a forum like this is to use your own judgment as to whom you listen to or believe.

Ebay ratings are often highly manipulated. I don't like the idea of telling people who they should listen to or who to believe.

They wouldn't be manipulated if a requirement was to include a link to the thread the rating is for.

If you make inclusion of the link to the thread that the rating is for compulsory, it's kind of tough to fake the ratings.

I think such a system would not work well in the main forum, because it is too subjective...

In fact, I implemented such a system - called "Warrior Rep" (see it here) - about 18 months ago and got a serious backlash from Warriors because they thought it was not fair.

I have seen the "Trader Ratings" at DP but am not too familiar with them. Are they used for general purpose ratings, or just for when somebody is selling something?

I think something like this could work well for WSOs, as then the buyer/seller have a relationship they entered into. It is something on my list of possibilities for the new WSO Pro system.

I meant it for transactions only. Not reputation in general. Just WSOs or other transactions that take place between warriors. One of the requirements for iTrader ( the plugin in vBulletin that does this ) can be set to provide a thread that the rating is for - so that mods can easily check whether the rating related to a transaction or was bogus - if need be.

Right, and that kind of makes sense. But, it is still open to abuse, as the forum doesn't know if a transaction actually took place. Someone could post a WSO, and if I had malicious intent I could pretend I had a transaction in order to damage their reputation.

Even when we guarantee a transaction has taken place (like with WSO Pro), a person could still buy a WSO with the sole reason of damaging the seller. Not quite as likely, but still possible.

Personally, I still think it is a good idea. Sure, it is somewhat open to possible abuse, but everything is. I would even say that MANY members of this forum have no problem abusing Google, Ebay, and even the internet in general in the hopes of selling something, but like to whine and complain when it comes back to bite them.

I think a more open system where we can better see the kind of products/services we are buying - and the reputation of the seller - can only help the IM community become better as a whole.

But, hey, what do I know?

I agree. I mean, everything is open to abuse. Even without a trader rating I could go on the main Warrior forum and start saying John Doe conned me on a WSO etc...

I personally think there are more positives then negatives for a trader rating system but again, as you said, it's just an opinion of an individual.
