Default Outsourcing a small project; is it better to pay by the hour OR pay a fixed fee?

Hey guys,

I just signed up for oDesk and posted a job looking for someone to help me with a very simple project which involves gathering URLs in a particular niche.

This project is a one-time thing so I'm not sure whether to pay by the hour OR pay a fixed fee?

Some advice would be appreciated

TIA,

Johnson

Initially I would say a fixed fee but...

Try and find good people to outsource and stick with them. Being able to trust somebody you outsource is huge, and then you can pay by the hour once that trust is built.

In my experience its tough to find a good outsourcing, but once you find a good person, do whatever you can to keep them. My philosophy is to always hire people smarter than me...i confess thats not hard to find hehe.

but seriosuly, good outsourcing will help your business 10 fold

ken

If you aren't standing there looking over their shoulder to make sure they are being efficient of their time, I don't see a point in paying them by the hour. A fixed fee, with an offer to tip if the project meets your expectations, and a loss if it doesn't and they don't offer to work with you.

I would say it is better to pay a fix fee. I don't trust people working by the hour for me that way. They could take 5 hours to do something that could take 1 or 2 hours if you get what I mean!

Exactly, that's my concern
