I'd like to introduce myself *and a few questions*

Hello fellow Warriors!

My name is Rick and let my start out by saying that finding this forum has been an absolute inspiration, as well as extremely educational. I've been trying unsuccessfully to make a part time living off of IMing for a while now and after a few grind reading sessions of the War Room (I bought access about two hours after finding the site) I feel I am finally armed with the information to launch my first website! (before I was trying PPC marketing with adwords.. we'll just say that without any knowledge of the industry that's near impossible.) So I really want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the folks out there that have contributed their success stories, countless hours of experience, and cutting edge tactics that arm us newbies with both hope and the know how to set out in our own business endeavors. THANK YOU ALL.

So I've got my niche, seems to be a very untapped one at that. I plan to offer a course in both ebook form, along with a complete audio track on my subject. I will also be including templates, extra documents, and such that the user should find extremely useful. (I hesitate to give my niche away here on the public portion of the forum, but I would like some of the experts opinions on it so if you think you could give me a hand with this I'd greatly appreciate it just send me a PM)

My main questions about SEO, probably easily answered by a few of the veterans out there. I have researched my keywords and found the one's I've chosen to use, along with a website name that is available. My question is: Lets say my keyword is xyz and the website that I have in mind is xyz.com. meaning the keywords are exactly in the url, will this increase my chances of ranking high? I've watched hours of videos, read countless forums on SEO I've learned a LOT of great tips that I plan on implementing but I can't recall if this has been addressed. Any help on this question would be wonderful.

Thanks in advance!

-Rick

PS. Happy Thanksgiving

I'm no seo expert, but in my own experience, using your keyword in the domain name is a help. It's not the only way, but it definitely helps.

As an example, google "much marcle bed and breakfast ". No 1 is usually a site that belongs to a client. It's a simple site (it was one of my first), no seo built in at all. The name was chosen by my client without any idea of what she was choosing in seo terms. She just wanted it and it works.

Hi! Welcome to the forum, and thanks for actually reading first.

Ok, sounds great that you think you have found an untapped niche - so I just want to ask you, did you take it a step further to see if your untapped niche has money to spend or wants to spend?

Also, here is something else you may want to consider. I don't know your niche, but sometimes it is better to build the site first and the subscribers, and then poll the niche and ask them what they want and would spend money on.

On the SEO questions - If you are planning a product it sounds like you have 2 options with your primary site. One is your own branding and one is to just go straight out with the best kw combination that is being used.

If it were me, I would probably do both.

You're going to start with one site, but you will likely wind up creating several sites that point to your primary site in the long term.

These additional sites can be really easy auto blogs or mini sites, but if you can snatch up some additional KW rich domains that will point to your primary site, you can actually go into branding on the primary site and call it almost anything you want.

This is all going to depend on how far you want to take the project. If it is your first project, you may be considering this as a microniche that will just be one piece of your overall plan. If that is the case, then I say grab the KW rich domain you found and use that for your product.

      Hope that helps.

yeah, it definitely helps. but you have to make sure you use the other SEO methods as well.

it will be very important to do both On Site SEO, coupled with building backlinks to your site.

and of course, it's important you select the right keywords as well.

the best keywords (you may already know this) would be ones with relatively lower competition and fairly high searches. they aren't necessarily long tailed keywords.

there are actually a lot of long tail keywords out there that are incredibly hard to rank for. and there are also a lot of fairly short (even one word) keywords thats are easy to rank high for.

so you have to make sure you do your keyword research properly too.

ok, i think i've digressed enough. hope the additional stuff i mentioned helps too.

I am going to disagree here and say it matters so little as to not worry about it.

Onpage SEO only counts for 10% of the total ranking factors nowadays. The rest is links, topical relevancy and trust. I would imagine the domain might add 2%.

Matt Cutts has stated on several occasions that you can rank just as well with a non-keyword domain.

With the "caffeine" update in January google is moving towards "branding". My personal opinion is make it memorable, and tie the name into everything you do, that will be just as powerful.

Yes having the keywords in your domain name is very important for both Google and Yahoo
Also you should listen to Jill and check out the profitability of your niche.
    Are there
    PPC ads for your niche
Sizable active Google or Yahoo groups or groups on Facebook
Any magazines it's takes a lot of advertising money to keep a magazine afloat so this is a good indicator of whether or not there's money in the niche

If there's no money in the niche don't waste your time

Using your main keyword in the domain works, particularly in Yahoo. I always do well in Yahoo rankings and I nearly always get a domain with my keyword in them.

First, Google ranks pages, not sites (unless a majority of the pages on the site are garbage). That means you have the opportunity to rank for a keyword with every page you build.

Based on testing with my own websites, the keyword in the domain does not count as much as individual page optimization (keywords in the title tags and within the content), along with relevant quality content and backlinks.

Also, while it's important to learn and analyze, none of what you learn will mean anything until you jump in and get your feet wet. At the end of the day, your most valuable lessons will come from your own hands-on experience.

Internet marketing is fun, exciting and full of possibilities. And for that very reason, people forget to mention that it's common to have lots of flops before the winners.

Don't worry about getting you first venture "perfect". Think of it as an adventure or an experiment. Do it to learn and you'll succeed, even if your first one or two are monetary flops. Pay attention, track what you do, observe what works and what doesn't, make changes accordingly, keep at it and you'll succeed.

While there are magic formulas people have stumbled upon to get rich in a day or week, they're as rare as a winning lottery ticket. Don't let the hype distract you. Yes, lottery winners exist, but a lottery ticket is not a business plan. If you want a business, do what it takes to build one.

      Best of luck to you!
