How easy is flipping websites?

I've heard the basics about flipping website. My impression is that it is a case of buying an old domain name that once has traffic and incoming links, then brush up on the content, do some SEO, bit of Bum Marketing etc. then sell it on.

Is this fundmentally what it is?

How much work tends to be envolved?

Who buy them and where do they buy them from?

Any advice will be well received, even if it starts with a beginning that isn't very complimentary

That is one way to go about it. There are several ways you can do it though.

Check out the All-in-One threads sticky at the top of this forum and there is a site flipping thread that has more information than you will be able to deal with at one time.

  • It's like selling crack to crack addicts. If you have a supply and the addicts you score.

Find your market, expand your talents and cash in.

People will buy any site they think will make them more money than the investment required.

To be completely honest its like saying how long is a piece of string. You may come across hundreds of people who have tried flipping and failed who may tell you its difficult or you may come across hundreds who do well and find it easy.

There are so many different models to flip. Start ups established etc. Then it comes down to your budget and experience etc.

Every site has its own value that will appeal to some and not to others.

If your new I would suggest you get the hang of IM first and if you can get some sites to earn commissions daily then look more in to flipping as at first those will be the easiest sites to flip.

    Good luck.

Flipping website is an excellent business model that can be very lucrative. However, you need to make sure that the website is quality and makes revenue.

Has Dave said above, depends what business model you intend to follow.

from being on and around the flippa website for quite some time now, i have noticed website who have proof of some sort of income sell a lot better then websites with no income (which of course is obvious).

i guess what im getting at is, you need to be able to make a website that has some sort of money coming in, in order to be able to flip it really well.

also were to buy them/sell them?
one of the main websites would have to be flippa, do a google search and you will get it.

how much work tends to be involved? well this really depends on how good of an IM you are, and how well and fast u can take a website getting 0 revenue to putting together a website that has x amount of revenue.

    hope that helps.

Just because you see sites with traffic and revenue do well on flippa does not mean that ones without are not lucrative.

The ones you mention that are doing well could have a ton of work and money poured in to them. Although the start up ones may sell for small change the building of them can be extremely easy to automate and outsource. Which can easily give you an autopilot income.

that's very true, dont get me wrong, sites with without traffic and revenue do fairly well, i mean if you have something that's a great website and a high potential in making money in the future it will sell very well also

The key thing to remember with flipping sites is that you aren't selling just a website. You are selling an investment - or at least that is what buyers are looking for, though they may not always get it.

A person buying a site from a flipper wants one thing only - the ability to make money from that purchase. Hence, the main things to consider are:

    * How much money can a person make from the site?
    * How difficult will it be for them to make that money?
    * How much time will they have to spend to make that money?

If your answers are 'lots', 'easy' and 'not much' then chances are you have a site that people will really want to buy and be willing to pay well for.

If your answers are 'not much', hard', and 'lots' then your sites will probably pass in and not sell for much.

Most sites fall someone in between, but it's when you can get those first three answers in line that you can really do well selling sites to investors.

So simple it's practically artistic. Enjoyed that little explanation.

Go to flippa.com and look at the sites under the 'Just Sold' tab for an idea of what's in demand. Look at the number of page views each auction got, whether the content and design were claimed to be unique or otherwise. Does the niche the site serves or it's purpose appear to be popular among buyers? Does the site include anything that others might not? Autoblogging plugins, for example, or graphic files in PSD format maybe? Is it an aging site that would do well with a boost in promotion, or a brand new site that's had none at all? Every piece of information is a response to a question, even those that never had to be asked.

Equally, the sites under the 'Ended Unsold' tab can be just as enlightening. Try to work out why these might have bombed. A low number of page views could indicate that the listing title just wasn't appealing enough - a sale may have been more likely if more people could have been persuaded to open the listing. Perhaps the seller was unforthcoming or defensive in answer to queries, or was clearly making claims that couldn't be backed up (or could even be easily dis-proven). Perhaps the site lacked features found in others of the same type. Of course, it could just have been listed at the wrong time or in the wrong circumstances, and will go on to find a happy new owner as many do, but once you're familiar with the type of sites that sell it's usually fairly easy to spot why others might not have done so well.

Site flipping products and the War Room are by no means without their benefits, but you can learn bundles from the people who are actually flipping sites, even if they're not actively teaching you anything. Perhaps more so if they're not in it to teach anyone - you can gain something from their experiences and mistakes without having it cost you.

Flippa is a great place for a quick site flip, but you aren't going to make that much money unless you can show revenue. Yes, they have some buyers on there that will pay you a few hundred bucks for a decent, niche site. But if you do have decent revenue, Flippa is no place to be advertising your site because there aren't a lot of serious buyers there.

If you have a good site with traffic and revenue, you're better off selling it through a real business broker.

Based on what I'm seeing on flippa.

The easiest method would be buying a website that's already making money but can be optimized some more, optimize it, then sell it for more cash.

    Heyya Peeps,

SiteFlipping works quite well in the product selling niche - especially unique products. You can easily breakdown your goals. Like $500 in 20 days, then flip for $1000. That's $1500 in your pocket.

You can go for the outsourcing way or do-it-yourself. Once the product is made, market it in the warriorforum. Make some sales and after a few days, flip it. This works very well. I have tried these and works uber cool.

I hope this helps. It's better to buy a guide on this so that you won't go wrong and you could get much more details about this.

    G'day,

      Hi Peeps66,

I guess fellow WF members had probably said all you want to know about site flipping.

I would like to add on is, when you are building a site to flip, build a site that seem interesting to buyer.

It means to say that, if you build site A, it must have room for improvement for the buyer to expand and improve on. Let say, if you can rank site A for a particular keyword on first page of Google, naturally, they would think (mentally) that if by driving traffic, they could rank other keyword as well and in term, that will bring up revenue as well.

This is sort of what a buyer will look into it.

If you just want to sell a turnkey website with 0 value attached to it, you are on the route to fastest failure. Just choose a model or two, test it out, which one suits you and work from there.

      Hope this helps.

If you can create a site in a popular niche, get it set up, promote it, get traffic, and make some revenue... you can do well in site flipping.

I recently flipped a site with a partner. The site was making approx. $250 a month in sales and we flipped it for $1200. Although, my business model is to keep more of these sites for myself (for obvious long term income reasons) and flip the ones that are making a bit but not as much as I would like.

There is a very good thread offer about this in the War Room
