Hi Warriors, There are so many people trying to make money online now that it seems we always have new people joining the forum and asking the same questions we've seen many times before. I know quite a few people who have made a success of their online business and are in the same position as me, where we can choose what type of thing we do and work from home, and we take for granted that there's so many ways to make money and so much free information around that there really shouldn't be anyone who tries but fails anymore. But I know many people just starting out tend to make things much more complicated than they need to be and focus on the mechanics and details (i.e which software and systems) rather than where their business is going and what their goals are, which often leads to disappointment because a reality check only comes after things fail. Are there any warriors who've been trying and trying but failing and are thinking maybe it won't work for them? Perhaps we can turn you around and get you moving forward. Andy |

My progress has been slow, but it's each little success that keeps me going. I am a stay at home mom, so it's a bit easier for me to casually work on my business and put up with the slow growth. I can imagine how hard it is for those already working a full time job, and how frustrating it would be to have it grow so slowly. I had the benefit of watching a friend of mine who was already successful doing the exact same thing that I am. So, I knew it worked and I just had to make it work for me. Motivation is a huge factor to success. If you can't keep yourself motivated and be a self starter, I'm sure the fantasy of working from home fades fast. |

Been trying for 7ish months now but doesnt seem to work, but after a few drink tonight I came up with a brief plan which I plan to work on tomorrow for a long term website. It involved 400 keywords long to short tail and forum and article marketing :P

“Do or do not... there is no try.” I see this far too often. I often get comments here in WSOs, in e-mails, PMs, etc that go along this vein: "This looks really good. I'm going to give it a try." It makes me want to reach through the Internet, grab them by the neck, shake some sense into them, and yell "STOP TRYING DAMMIT!" It's only when you commit to do it - come hell or high water, or technical difficulties - that you can succeed. There is no easy road. It takes forging ahead no matter what. If you just "try", you'll give up at the first hurdle. And that is what leads to failure - again and again and again!

I release a new product and I say "This week I'm going to make $X." There's no "let's see if I can make $X". It's a firm "I WILL". What that does is set an expectation. I must make $X. If sales are a little soft, and it looks like I'm not headed towards $X, I have only one choice (NO, quitting is not it) - I must push harder, for I WILL make $X.

I believe the reason why most people don't see results, fail and subsequently want to give up is because of the wrong application of the Pareto's 80/20 rule. The mindmap below explains what I mean: ![]() |

Yep...the best thing you can do is stop "trying" so hard and just let it go. Follow your instincts. Pick a system...most ANY system will do as they'll all make you at least some money, and work at it. Work at that one thing, and THAT ONE THING ALONE. Cancel all your "guru" mailing lists that want you to buy the next new shiny thing several times a week. GET OFF that treadmill so you can focus on the work. Be so d@mned singleminded about making it work that you can't help but have that outcome, and, once you start making some money, THEN you can start (slowly) branching out into other areas if it suits you. OR, you can just keep doing your 1-2 techniques and continuously refine them. Up to you. But the point has already been well made. Stop with the trying and get to the doing part. ![]() -=Vel=- |

Andy great thread topic. And Kevin I totally agree. Yoda (and Star wars LOL) are a great place to seek inspiration You cannot simply try, you have to believe in your success, that you are DOING IT. Trying means it is something to be simply attempted, not persevered. Stop trying and just do it. Trying puts that seed of doubt in your mind. Not good for the overall mind. Just my two cents, Sylvia |

I just want to chime in and give my two cents. I believe the reason a lot of young marketers give up, is because they hear so much hype about " $10,000 a month working one hour a month." What happens is; newbies get into the game, dont make huge amounts of money, and work HOURS a day everyday with nothing to show. I think that if more IM product Creators were honest in their sales copy, lose the hype, speak the truth, more people would push through knowing they were not failures. And I am not putting the blame on warriors in the WSO forum. I am speaking more to the people on TV and radio. Most people who find the warrior forum already have a little immunity to overhyped sales letters. But those people watching TV late at night, have not idea what they are getting into when the buy a product that makes unreachable income claims. |

After some time off from IM due to my own business offline and my job I just didn't feel like I should spend any time on the internet. I make decent money at my main job and I have clients signing up to my LLC. But today I had the day off for the holiday and I spent 13 hours building a website, research, campaigns, and articles. I am going to update this every day until December 23rd. I just want to see if I can make a couple of hundred by Christmas. As you have all said I think people get turned off because the beginning of a campaign usually sucks. I spend hours researching and then I flip flop back and forth trying to find a niche. I knew I wanted to focus on something for Christmas. I figured with the economy the way it is everyone is going to cut down. The one thing that is a constant in my family though is the kids always get presents. The adult's won't get much this year. So I called my niece and asked her what she wanted for Christmas. She gave me a list of a couple of toys. I knew exactly what to sell. I am using Amazon for this campaign. I will post back on December 23rd to post my results. Keep on plugging away people. People still have money and they are still spending it. Thanks to everyone here! -jayson |

Whoo I am one of the "trying types' but I have realized IM is like nothing I have ever done, I work hours and hours and no results. The learning curve is steep and this has taken me time..oh no. It is like baptism with fire. Now I have to FORCE myself to get one thing and work on it with a GOAL. |

BUT... on the other hand, all you can really do when you get started is try. It's ALWAYS technically trying something when you're new. I stopped trying and started doing once I figured out the one thing I really wanted to do. It look a whole lot of trying to figure out what that was, though.

My biggest frustration as far as IM goes is in making money on sites I enjoy. Generally, I've done the best in the niches I really don't care about.

Some great advice and words of wisdom in this thread I have had a pretty bad week in terms of IM - I have been burned out and down, mostly because I am not meeting my own expectations. I wanted to have earned at least a couple of thousand dollars by Christmas, but I'm still in the early hundreds and sales have been non existent recently. I don't think it's any coincidence that I haven't been sleeping either - I think a lot of it is stress, both personal and IM. In the last couple of days though, I have reflected a lot - when I look back at what I've been doing the last few weeks, I can see exactly why I haven't been making any money. As mentioned in this thread, I have had trouble staying consistent. I work hard every day(most days anyway) but I tend to get too focused on one thing and I neglect other areas. Recently, I have been way too focused on SEO. As a result, I have got a site to number 13 in Google for a very competitive term, which is a good achievement - but that alone isn't going to give me the results I want on a daily basis. Even being number 1 probably won't. I have neglected areas such as writing and submitting articles. That has actually given me most of my(limited) success, so it's silly of me to just stop it. I've also been spreading myself thin in terms of sites - a couple of mini sites have not been performing as well as I thought they would. Starting on Monday(I don't work much on weekends), I am going to really knuckle down and focus on all the areas I need to. There's absolutely no reason why I can't spend a couple of hours a day writing and submitting articles, and I can spend the rest of the time on building my sites, SEO, generating traffic etc. The bottom line is, things aren't going well in terms of results, so I'm changing things. Only I can bring the results I want, and I've always said I will never, ever stop until I get those results So hang in there, if you want it bad enough just stick at it, keep re-evaluating and amend things accordingly.

I agree that some of the primary reasons for failure for experienced and newbie alike are - making things too complicated - focusing on things that don't make money. Both are easy to do and in the beginging most don't know any better. We all see the elaborate products and 'Launches' from people who claim to make tons of dough. (most of which have a sales letter that reads more like - 'you need this' - but never quite tell you what *IT* is). Most people seem to teach IM in sort of a circular pattern - get customers - sell products - get customers - sell products. But rarely does anyone learn the basics behind these steps. I'd say the main reason people fail online is that they never learn how to start. They never really learn the basics of IM and product dev. IM is fairly simple, but at the same time, it can be overwhelming and complicated to find a starting point that makes sense. Everyone is a bit different and needs to find what works for them. At some point, most are willing to do whatever it takes to make money, but when the money is slow, their willingness to work decreases significantly. Consequently they jump around looking for the next opportunity to make money quick. After all, the 'goal' now seems to have become to NOT work. It used to be 'be your own boss', but that is really only a stepping stone to 'make money in your sleep do nothing else'. |
