I'm sorry for having to post a really simple question...but I have been trying to find this for days now(I really did not want to post this) and cannot get any help from the wordpress support staff...

I have been trying to install an autoresponder i got for free from a generous fellow warrior on wordpress....i uploaded the files, and step #2 of the directions say: activate plug-in through "plug-ins" menu on wordpress...but i cannot find anywhere that says plug-ins

The menu at the top has 1. "My Account" 2. "My Dashboard" 3. "New Post" 4. "Blog info"....Can someone tell me where in these menus "plug-ins" is??

Can someone describe this step-by-step like your explaining it to a monkey?

lol I am sorry for this stupid question but it is driving me insane

    Hi JEL,
I don't know which version of WP you run, but usually you've to look at your dashboard to the right where you'll find that says "Plugins" if it is closed click on it and it open showing more different voices, you click on "Installed" and that willl bring you to a page where your plugins are listed as active or inactive. Search your plugin and click on "Activatate" and you're done.
    Hope this helps

In my Wordpress dashboard the "PlugIn" section is right under "Appearance". Click "Installed" in the dropdown menu and you will be on the "Manage PlugIns" page. There should be a list of all your plugins and you have the option at the bottom of each one to activate (or deactivate) and edit. Hope that helps.

Click on 'Dashboard', then half way down the page on the left side click on 'Plugins'. Find the plugin in the plugins list and click on 'Activate'.

Assumes a recent version of WordPress.

When you log in to your WP Admin area, you should see a vertical menu on the left-hand side of the screen. The plugins menu is inside there.

    It looks like that

I do have the most recent version(just got it last week) I am assuming.

I logged in, and in the menu on the left I found from appearance down....

    1. appearance
    2. users
    3. tools
    4. settings

Identical to the picture Jay posted, except no plugins tab...Is there somewhere I can add menu options or something?

Imagine looking for a tab for days....beyond frustrating!

This menu arrangement sounds like the FREE HOSTED version of wordpress from Wordpress.com.

    Does it look like this?

    If so,

You won't be able to install any plugins on a wordpress blog hosted at Wordpress.com.

You said you uploaded the plugin though, which is what confuses me. Let me know if that answers your question. If not, maybe we can chat on AIM or something and I'll help you out.

I feel like an idiot....you were right I had the free hosted version of wordpress.

Do I have to buy another version of it or do I have to buy a domain name for it?

Thanks for all the help everyone...esp Jay.

Wordpress is open source, so you don't have to buy it.

Here is what you will need though:

-Hosting that supports PHP and SQL (I use HostGator for most of my sites)
-A Domain name (You may get a free one if you get an account at HostGator- not sure though)
    -Fantastico or FTP

If you get HostGator, you will have fantastico. Then, you can refer to this video I created about how to install wordpress using Fantastico.

Here is the video I'm talking about:

Any other questions, feel free to shoot me a PM
