Hi,

I am just checking to see if I am sane.

I paid some one to design some graphics for me
and I wonder if you like it and think it's professional
looking.

Here were my thoughts to the designer after
he sent it to me to proof.

"This is really hard for me to write because I don't like
to confront, but being I am the customer I'll tell
you what I think.

I think you can do better, a lot better as a matter of fact
on your sales page you did a lot better.

I like the look of the first 3 examples you have on your
sales page they POP! Mine doesn't.

I do not like the look of the 4th one.

Regarding my example...

The blues are fine the guy is fine.

The hammer has to go.
The gears make no sense at all.(Looking closer it looks
like a watch bezel)
The metal frame does not look like a window.
The "Window Info" text looks very home made.

Can you put a nice looking house or houses with lots of windows
in the background where you have the gears?

Can you replace the metal frame with a picture of a nice
white framed double window? You can see the house or houses
you have in the background through that window."

Hi Blase,

I don't blame you for being disappointed.

The graphics look very basic and not very professional looking.

A decent graphic artist should be able to do a much better job.

You mentioned that the designers sales page look a lot better than what he is providing you. I'm not saying this has happened in your case but here's somehting that happened to me.

I found an outsourcer in Pakistan for web design and their company site was very good and there were some excellent examples of their work. The work they produced for us was very poor.

It turned out that one of the sales agents worked with one of the lesser designers in the organisation by using the companies good name and work for their own benefits.

I fired them instantly and they did feel very embarassed when they were caught out.

Yep you are sane, so don't worry
I don't know how much you paid him, but this is really not the work of a decent graphic artist. It reminds me of my work I did 5 years ago and I struggled to sell it for a virtual currency of a forum.
It's not bad on the whole, there are some good parts, but i just looks to be made in a hurry.

LOL! I told the designer that is what I think
he is doing. He did not respond back to that charge.

I of course thought of Windows software not windows on your home. This graphic does a poor job of conveying that message. The guy?

What's with the guy in the suit? Is he going to be using that cartoon hammer to turn that gear so I can learn how to shop for replacement windows? Incongruent juxtaposition is good for copy...not so good for graphic design LOL.

Very Cheesy to say the least. Looks like a template that he simply changes the text on whenever he has a new project to create. Prolly took him 5 minutes at the most.

Hey Gene, how you doing?

I am glade everybody here thinks I am sane. I agree with the
5 minutes. I sent this back and it did take me less than 5 minutes
and I thought it looked better.

I think I'll get some more comments and then send the post
url to the designer for him to read.

Your example is actually cleaner cut. Seems like he threw something rather generic together.

I agree this looks sub par.

But it would be interesting to know what kind of communication went on between the two of you before the work began. What was agreed upon, and so forth.

The reason I say that, is that for me what really kills it is the gigantic headline saying "Window info". The headline needs to be stronger than that.

As a matter of fact in his questionnaire he did ask what
copy I wanted on the footer. I told him to leave it blank
and I'll put it in latter.

I agree that it has little to do with the design, although making it so extremely large could be said to be a poor design choise

I just asked about the communication part in case a newbie reads this thread, because I find it's probably the most important part of any outsourcing agreement.

judging on the ad, i think you are sane in every way. i would feel disappointed if i were you too. if you want i could talk to some graphic artists i know that might be willing to help. message me if you want me to talk to them.

Looks like a crappy template to me... I do a better job myself, with no real graphics design in my soul =) Not wroth a $47 price tag IMHO. And it'll cost you a lot more down the road as well... unfortunately, time and money to revise it.
