Backup Your WordPress Sites NOW!

Things just went from bad to worse.

My hosting company had a server error and reset my whole account back to fresh cpanel install.

I just use this account for my wordpress sites. I lost 15 blogs that were all ranking well and bringing me in a small daily income.

I was a fool and hadn't backed up my databases so I have to start from scracth and try to re-create each page from google cache. 1 blog I had worked on like over 100 hours, I feel sick right now.

Anyone who hasn't backed up their blogs, go and do so now!!

The really annoying thing is that if I had put these blogs on my server they would have been autobacked up. I guess I placed too much faith in a shared hosting company! Learn from my mistake.

    Ouch.

Not a nice thing to experience that's for sure, I feel for you.

What hosting company do you use? I only use Hostgator for years and I've never had a problem with them.

Anyway, hopefully people will learn from you experience and backup their databases.

I am using UK2 for this account. I know I am not alowed to slate people here but the word I am thinking rhymes with "Chucking Useless Slats".

Had problems all month with sites going up and down like a yoyo. I only using it to keep my blogs organised and seperate from my main server. I will be closing account and asking for my money back although I won't hold my breath. If they even reply it will be surprising.

Yeah, I think it is time for you switch servers. I'm not saying that you are, but don't be a cheap skate when it comes to hosting your websites. I recommend bluehost, awesome company with 24 hour phone support.

I would be looking for another host, definitely. That really sucks - I know what you're going through because I've been there myself. I dealt with a bad host that cost me thousands until I switched to hostgator 3 years ago - never a problem since.

I know it's too late now, but I use this WP plugin on each of my blogs and set it to email me a fresh backup daily. I don't even have to think about it.

I use a plug-in to email me daily (or weekly) database backups - depending on how often the content changes. I also use the expert function in WP from time to time.

I also keep screenshots of all my sites, so if the worst happens I know what they looked like.

My host offers off-site backups - but so far I haven't taken them up on that. Maybe I should?

Sorry to hear. I take it that they don't do their own backups? You didn't mention.

Words can't possibly bring out the angst with that but, we all appreciate you bringing this out as a lot of us myself included don't think much about having to backup our sites. Thanks.

I had something similar happen when the company I had my reseller account with decided to get out of the hosting business.

It was a serious PITA, but I got most of the content back using the Wayback Machine...

Now I use a plugin to email me database backups, with the frequency depending on the activity level of the blog.

OK, after almost 4 days of silence, the hosting company got back to me.

They are claiming server was hacked. I have been given a database (not sure of integrity) but all files on server have been deleted.

I'm not really sure how I restore a WP blog just from that database. I am not sure of exact plugin version I had and I am sure some settings will be in flatfiles.

    Going to be real messy
