Can a flash video be downloadable?

Hello everyone,

I have created quite a few flv and swf flash videos and I simply embed them into my various web pages.

I am now getting a few clients asking if I can make these videos downloadable.

So, my question is, can I?

Can my clients simply download my videos if they install something on their PC.

Or do I have to do something first?

I have been told that I can create an .exe file and upload that - and whereas I am fine with doing this - it will take a lot of work to do all this to make my videos downloadable - so I'm wondering if there is an easier method.

Thank you all very much.

There are several software which can download .flv (flash videos) like sothink's video downloader which is free.

Open up Firefox and navigate to the Webpage that contains the embedded Flash SWF file that you would like to download

Anywhere in the empty space on the page, right click and select the Page info option

Select the Media tab from the Page Info menu

Scroll down the list and select the .swf file from the list. It should be listed as an embedded type

Once the item has been selected, you can click the Save As button to save the .swf flash file to your computer

or you can just ftp the .swf file and provide a direct link to download it.

You can teach your clients the right-click method - or
make a link below the video which allows them to click
and download. The latter will reduce further inquiries
about the right-click method... because not all browsers
and OS's have the same right-click menu.

Also remember that not all computers will be able to play the downloaded swf file when the downloader tries to open it.

When they are at your webpage, a player is embedded on your webpage, but if they just download the swf file, they will have to have a media player on their computer that will play swf files.
