How long does it take you to write a 500 word article?

by adventureman89 48 replies
How fast can you build a whole 10 post blog, with at least 7 other articles linking to each of the post?

Most likely the 7 extra articles will be spun by having spin points and I can use different ones through out the article.

I want to know the time limit I should shoot for getting this done.

That is really up to your own abilities....I, personally, can write a 300 word article in about 5 minutes....I get 10-12 done in a hour, but everybody that knows me thinks I type super fast and I have always been very good at putting my words on paper.

If I focus not long at all, a few minutes. But there are days when it's just not gonna happen no matter what I do.

Totally depends on the person and their mood.

It depends on what I am writing about really, if I know information about it already without research, then I will take around 15-20mins depending on length, and including a proof read checking for spelling and grammar errors.

If I have to research the niche myself, then I could take over 30mins, as I tend to be rather fussy in making it flow well, so I will write, then re-write, then check, the re-write....etc. it could go on forever but if I get to 30 mins I push myself to get it done.

I dought I could take up writing full time, as I take to long compared to most writers, and I'm fussy, but I will always be pleased with the finished piece, and that's what counts!

I do outsource writing to others too, I like to mix it up and write when I feel like.

I actually find that if you're asking this question then the article isn't getting written. The first rule of thumb when writing an article is to write.
That said I would forget asking this question because so many people have different experiences. First of all I know a woman who writes one article a day for ezine and she makes a huge amount of money.
On a different note there are people who write 20-30 articles a day in ezine and make barely nothing compared to the lady I spoke of earlier.

Okay I didn't want to get side tracked but getting side tracked is exactly what happens to most people when they start writing and that's where everything differs. You may need to apply some personal time-lines on yourself in order to create articles in the time frame you want them made.

I personally don't like for someone to tell me how long each of my articles should be and how long it should take me to write them because when one article has been written by me, I have already passed the majority of people who sit back and procrastinate about writing.

Possible. I can do it. But its stressful.

Work on quality and not on amount of submissions.

It all depends on who you are. I can blast out a solid article in 5 minutes and I type fast whereas one of my buddies literally takes 30 minutes per short article because he just isn't good at writing.

But yes, 10 a day is easily doable if you are pretty fluid with your writing.

No trouble getting 10 a day....I could do that before I even start my real day if I wanted. I agree, though, there are some days where I just cannot get motivated to write. However, I can tell you I started writing at about 10pm (1 hr 45 mins ago) and since I like to watch my TV shows online I started loading up an episode of Criminal Minds(almost all the way caught up). While it was loading I wrote 4 articles. Then, I watched the 10-15 minutes that was loaded up. I wrote another 4 and went back to it. I did this three times and so within 1 hour and 45 minutes I watched a 43 minute TV show and wrote 12 articles.

You just have to sit down and let the words go from your brain to your fingers and onto your computer screen.

I write in notepad so that I don't get distracted by spelling and grammar with squiggly colored lines. I don't worry about any of that until it is done. I can tell you that if you have any idea of what you are talking about most of what you write will be better than half the garbage that is out there so don't worry about how good it is. JUST GET IT WRITTEN AND OUT THERE!

Seriously. I'm sure you can write a million "okay" articles in 10 minutes a pop, but I'm a perfectionist with my writing. I'd much rather write 2-3 BRILLIANT articles than 20-30 OKAY ones.

I was often told "Emily, it doesn't have to be perfect!" even in short essays at school, so no doubt that hasn't changed. Oh well, it keeps my clients around, which is most important at the end of the day.

Same here! My process is to freely type whatever ideas flow out. Then I step away from it for a little and with a clear head I clean it up and refine it. The freestyle writing is often enhanced with background music and a huge mug of Tazo tea...

Don't hate the player hate the game.....lol.......The reason some of use are so fast is that we don't go back and re-write and re-proof 100 times before we use the article. It is not necessary. Content that is saved in a file on your computer has no chance of making you money whether it is perfect or not. However, content that is just okay and it out on the web has the chance to make you money.

I look at it that even what I think is crap someone else might read and think is perfect. You have to remember that a well written article is in the eye of the reader.

Funny thing happened Ben when I read your email to me,
They say I can't reply until I have 50 posts?
That was very strange since I've been on the forum for a long time, I just read mostly don't usually post too much, but that was kinda odd to see.

anyway here is what I was trying to reply back to you with, I hope it helps and if anyone has the video I spoke about in this post please post it for him to see I can't find the link for it. It has to deal with bum marketing so you probably got it in your email from Travis.

      No problem Ben,
Well, she has posts that deal with relationships and she really personalizes each article she creates. She does it every day and spends a lot of time on the article really points out facts people want to know. She directs them to a clickbank product. The crazy thing about it is the articles are long. And thats all she does and only does 1/day.
If you want to know another little tidbit of information about her, she is actually bringing in around 100k/year doing this every day.
It all is based around the bummarketing concept. I will show you the link to the video, I will see if I can find it.... well I searched and can't find the actual video that was sent to my email, but pretty much what I told you is in it.

I guess her process would be to really talk at a personal level with her readers and really let them know she knows how they feel and how they can get more help through the CB product in the end.

Hoped this helped you out Ben,

Writing for me is between 15 minutes to an hour. Writing is not too hard once you have the reaearch figured out. The less I have on research the longer it takes - and that's when I start to edit, go back, change this and that... time flows like water. Sometimes 2 hours. Sometimes never get it done. Scrap Start again..

Do the research in depth first anything else will slow you donw into absoluite boredom - and then nothing good gets done that day

          Here's my take on this.

I always think about my folks when I am reseraching something. They are in their 80's now and they know their own world but not much about today. When telling them anything I need to do it logically and not too complicated.

Try it. "Ok, how would I explain something to Mom in 2 minutes?"

My best results of research are when I can boil an outline down to one liners for the start, middle and ending. 3 lines.

If you have that then the rest is easier. DonĀ“t accumulate too many bulletpoints with facts because then it will be hard to decide what goes where.

I start out intending to do 250+ words and my articles always end up 450-600 words. If you tell yourself it's going to be a short one, it's easier to get started.

But I do have an advantage and that is: I write every single day, no matter what my mood. Consistency has really helped me out. I wake up every day and immediately tune into things looking for article ideas. It happens while I'm out and about, too. Zinio also helps for ideas (thanks to Kevin Riley for that tip!)

It depends on how well you know your niche. If you know it well you should be able to crank out at least 5 articles a day on any keyword....say 35 articles a week. If someone cannot do this then they are either in the wrong niche or don't have a business.

As most of the others have said, it depends. If it's a familiar topic, maybe 20 minutes. If it requires research, maybe an hour or so. Though I've written 700+ word articles on familiar topics in as few as 20 minutes or so.

A lot of people seem to think article writing is about quantity. I guess it depends on what the goal is. If it's simply to get backlinks without great quality, you can probably write a lot of articles in a day.

I figure if I'm going to bother to write anything at all I'm going for quality and might as well write to get the thing ranked as well as to get the link. But that's just me. Both EZA and Google are cracking down more on junky articles and I think that's a good thing. Good luck.

    Hi,
I noticed that alot of ppl are saying they can easily put out 15+ articles a day no problem. However, it seems unlikely that writing that many articles a day all with original content would make for a lot of poor articles. If your writing articles and expect to see success in the long run you will def want to focus more on the quality of the content not the quantity. You will just have to test yourself and see how long it takes you to write a quality article a couple of times. This will give you an idea of how much is too much and what you can expect in the future. Remember, good quality and relevant unique articles are far more valuable than duplicate and complete "sale driven" articles.

Like most people on here - it definitely depends on my familiarity with the topic. I also am big on quality so no matter now long or shot - I jot down a rough outline. I don't like free writing, even in blog posts.

I have to say - it depends...

If I'm "writing" an article - something that's going on my sites or under my name, anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour depending on the subject.

If I'm "building" a set of articles - something meant only to generate clicks, backlinks and syndication - I can do them fairly quickly using templates and previously accumulated research.

I compare it to cooking - I can whip up something that will ward off starvation in about 15 minutes. It will use a simple recipe, few ingredients and a minimum of skill, but it gets the job done. On the other hand, if I'm making something for the enjoyment of the finished product or to impress my guests, it might take all day to build subtle layers of flavor, a complex recipe, and a lot of skill and patience.

So, when you ask how long it takes to write a 500 word article, what are you asking for - a grilled cheese sandwich and canned soup, or a cheese souffle with a complex sauce?
