Sorry to resurrect this post but it may help others who were as stumped as me. In the last few days I could not do any searches in either FF or IE without the PC freezing. I've gone back over recent downloads etc and unistalled but still no use.

Then I had a flash of light, I'd noticed my McAfee Site Advisor had changed appearance, but when I clicked and the balloon popped up, that also froze my browser. So I went over to McAfee Communities and there were a few posts highlighting these exact problems, since a recent update from McAfee.

Couldn't find any response from McAfee, but since disabling the Site Advisor addon for FF and disabling it in IE I'm back to normal. So I guess it's nothing to do with FF but looks like something with McAfee, which hopefully they'll correct shortly and I'll then re-enable it.

If you've not got McAfee and experiencing these problems then, sorry I don't know. Now I've just got to reinstall the programs I thought might have been the problem. C'est la vie!

Well, I just moved to Google Chrome...I love firefox but I have problem with it running in 64 bit. Even since I upgraded my OS, i'm not able to run firefox but you should definitely try Google Chrome to run the keyword tool.

    It work like a charm

I have switched to Chrome as the latest version of FF seems to slow down to a crawl and crash left and right, even with no plugins it creeping along. Something seems to have gone wrong with newest upgrade as it was fine before I upgraded. :-(

I've been having the same problem with firefox and the keyword tool. I now do my KW research on Chrome.
It DOES however respond on Firefox if you care to wait.. I tried showing one thing at a time .. for example..the CPC (took 5 minutes before it unfroze and showed the results) but thats time wasted.
    Just use Chrome Imo.

I used it just now and it works flawlessly for me right now.
I'm using Firefox 3.5.5 with lots of plugins, on Windows XP SP2.

Damm< Chrome is so much faster with Google tools - full stop - all of em.

If only Chrome supported FF plugins I could ditch FF in heartbeat for Chrome.

I guess you are lucky Chris as I am on XP Home SP2 and it is very slow even after disabling all plugins and extensions...

Yes, its' freezing up for me too. It eventually comes back but it's a pain for sure.

Yesterday it was freezing up for about 3 minutes every time I would open an email to reply to someone. Cut my productivity down to about nothing because after about 15 seconds of watching the circle spin I would just wander away from the computer!

Haven't had a problem yet with respect to google's keyword tool, BUT I do have other problems with FF that are seriously starting to annoy the hell out of me. It seems as though FF is just getting worse all the time instead of better. It's a shame too, because at one time it was my favorite browser.

    Now, I don't have a favorite.

I don't know what has happened with the new version but with me thats when things started to go slow and getting the not responding error than after a few minutes it would be fine.

It was installed on my new NetBook running XP Home SP2 and after updating to 3.5.5 it started to crawl.

I tried Safari but I could not even get it to work on NetBook and uninstalled it. I am using Chrome but I miss a few of the FF plugins.

It's obvious that there is a real problem for a cross section of users, but it doesn't affect everyone. Is anyone here in the Firefox support forums? I wonder if they have any answers or work-arounds.

I found a few but they worked for a bit then it was back to being slow.

Maybe Simon you could try switching back to an older version of FF?

Some of the older versions are still pretty good for the most part IMO, and it may fix your problem.

I'll be sticking with FF anyway as I need the plugins, but I'm actually enjoying Chrome for other usage such as the Google keyword tool, damm it's so fast it's insane, beats any version of FF into a cocked hat.

I'm also getting 'lock-ups' with Google searches, but not just in FF also IE.

Chrome is the only one that works. I've recently added some extra toolbars so I'm trying to isolate the problem to see if it's one of them.

        Frustrating to say the least.

I use to like IE years ago, until I tried FF. At that point I totally ditched IE, that's how much i liked FF in comparison. Everything in FF just seems more clear visually as well, compared to IE. I haven't ever tried Opera or Safari, as I haven't heard anything great about those browsers ever.

But now after reading Simon's posts about Chrome, I'm actually going to give it a try. =)

I've fixed this problem by simply restoring my system to an earlier date..

Now it's working fine, but we'll see
