Ezine Articles is NOT Paypal Friendly...and I hate credit cards!

Well EZA is no longer paypal friendly. As it seems, the world is really not "cash" friendly anymore anyways. It seems a young person really CANNOT go that far without a credit card these days.

Couldn't get aweber without it, and now EZA just gave paypal the boot as well....and the only solution? A credit card.

No, not banking...not anything normal! Instead, a credit card. But I guess that's normal to some.

But to a 20 year old... that means interest, credit bla bla bla and a whole lot of other problems I just don't need. Does anyone else hate credit cards and just feel as if they are being pushed or forced into a very tight monetary control system??!

Hi,

If you received the EzineArticles Newsletter on Monday, you know we offered a buy 1 month of Premium membership, get 1 month free offer that expires today at 2pm CST.

You're receiving this email because you signed up with us when we only offered PayPal as a payment source.

We've determined that the only way we can deliver great service on a recurring subscription model is by switching to credit card only (Visa, MC, American Express and Discover). By doing this, we're able to run specials such as the Cyber Monday promotion that was previously impossible with PayPal.

Just get a pre-paid card or use a bank account with a debit card that has a MC/Visa logo. That way you won't pay interest or finance charges, although their will likely be a fee for buying the pre-paid card.

      Thanks Tina.

I have actually known about the prepaid card for at least 3 months now. I have not gotten one. A credit card is really not something which is in my interest, and I still feel as if I am being forcefully pushed into some financial control system...

I know what you mean. I use a pre-paid card for these types of things. The world tries to shame those people who use cash even though it is better sometimes. Here in America they had a series of Visa commercials where there was a line of people all paying with their credit card, and when the one guy came up to the counter with cash he would get an evil look because he stopped the quick flow of things. Shaming people into getting credit cards is not the way to go.

I didn't have any problems getting a decent credit card when I was 18. The best use for it is for continuity programs you know you'll continue using, then just pay off the balance every month. My continuity program of choice: World of Warcraft > Just $15/mo, set and forget.

No no, a prepaid credit card functions like a debit card. You load on what you need and use it. So you can get on EZA fine. No interest worries, nothing like that.

I'm well aware of that. But I am still being pushed to get a plastic card, which just so happens to take on the name of a "credit card". I guess I am alone on this one.

This has nothing to do with Ezine's decision, but...

Have you ever noticed how hard it can be to cancel a subscription with a credit card? Usually, you need to search for the cancellation email or phone number (that can be impossible in itself), send in your request, and hope that you get a reply within a day or so - hopefully, before the next payment cycle starts.

Is it any wonder forced continuity sites don't use Paypal? Too easy to cancel.

I had reservations about continuing on with Ezine's premium membership as I never sign up for anything monthly unless it is through Paypal. I'm sure they have an easy unsub process though.

You'd still be able to use your PayPal funds if you were to get a PayPal debit card (it's accepted wherever Visa is) and just ensure that you load enough onto it each month to cover your payments.

There are no interest charges for that.

          Except that...

Paypal has made it increasingly difficult to obtain even a debit card to access your funds.

I lost my card (one I had for YEARS) and I actually got denied a replacement!?!? I had to call and request and FINALLY was approved after "escalating" it. And, I hadn't had any dings against my paypal-- chargebacks, disputes, zilch.

Maybe the best alternative is just a checking account with a debit card. And, there are banks that offer "one time use" debit cards. Meaning, you don't have to input your actual debit card online. You go to their website and input your info and it spits out a one-time use number. Safe for identity theft or otherwise.

I understand what you are saying- I don't like to be "forced" to do certain things in order to be able to participate in a particular venue/activity etc.

          Good luck

          Warmly,

          Brandi

Also with the somewhat new Paypal plug-in, you can generate a credit card number (a one-time or one with a set expiration date).
