Default Teetering on success but my traffic sucks!

Hey everyone.

I'm trying...boy am I trying. As I mentioned in my last post, I am getting pretty good conversions but, as you can see from my title, my traffic is abysmal!

I hate doing this... (I genuinely need help, I am not trying to promote my site here) but could I PLEASE GET SOME ADVICE!!!

What is the best way for me to get traffic???? My niche is not 'sexy' and it is quite saturated (as there is quite a bit of free info out there).

Thanks

A few tips.

If your objective is to get organic traffic from Google you'll need to improve your on-site SEO, to start.

A quick check in Google tells me you're not active in forums where your target audience is. Get involved! Social marketing is the way to go(and Google will reward you for it in terms of better organic search rankings).

Your site looks well organized, informative. Keep it up and you'll get traffic eventually.

Get your seo as good as you can (get the trial version of market samurai and make sure you have "all reds")

try some article marketing Eza and then articlesbase and goarticles thats should give you more traffic until your organic rankings improve

Mark, I appreciate your advice but I was wondering how I could create articles from the education niche stand out. That is, there's tons, and I mean tons, of articles about 'Multiplying Fractions', or 'How to Write an Essay'.

It seems that all the good keywords and keyword phrases are found in pages and pages through the search engines.

I realize that this is the case for many other niches but it's more prevelant (in my opinion) in the education field.

The question remains...how could I get an article on, for example, 'How to Write a Paragraph', or 'Using the Pythagorean Theorem' stand out?

Your site looks very good -- article marketing would help increase traffic a lot. You asked Mark in the post above about how to get an article on "How to Write a Paragraph" or "Using the Pythagorean Theorem" to stand out. I think you're looking at it wrong. You want to write "How to Teach Your Child to Use the Pythagorean Theorem" or "Help Your Child Learn to Write a Paragraph" -- you want to target parents and especially home-schooling parents. The Home-Schooling market is big and it buys. Could you come up with a short course on some aspect of home tutoring or home-schooling that you could give away? People love to sign up for short, free courses. It gets them to your web site and on your list, too. You are building a list?

@ the teach.
I would do what Ally suggests.I would look at some mommy bloggers and see what there talking about there kids and there learning experiences.
Go to an elementary school and ask some teachers what are the few biggest problems there seeing in the children.
Then ask what they think parents could be doing at home with there kids.
Then come up with something to sell to the parents to help there kids do better.

I will be your Digital Assistance for cheap.PM me.

with keywords like those in the OP, you are right, there is too much free information. What Ally said is right on. Go back to KW research. Find keywords targeted to parents. look for keywords targeted to people in a hurry also. Do more niche research and figure out the buyers, don't worry about the free information, you want to see what people are typing when they want to buy.

follow my relationship marketing blog for tips on building more traffic without relying on Google's whims.

Ally W said it better than i can, there is no need to attack the keywords head on, find a different approach. Remember IM is long term, in a few years time you may well rank well for the main keywords but until then concentrate of some of the easier terms.

Thanks Ally and everyone else. I hadn't thought of that approach.

I'll definitely try it asap.

Do you think that my site is a good candidate for affiliates?

Your site is definitely a good one for affiliates to sell. There are some good products available to walk you through setting up an affiliate program, I know Jimmy D. Brown has one, Sales Army Secrets.

Another thought on traffic -- there are some fairly large home schooling forums online -- google to find them, then sign up at one or two and start posting good helpful info and answers to questions. Forum marketing works very well if you do it right, by going slow and helping answer questions. You can also learn what people are looking for, and customize your marketing to what they're asking about.

You are passing up tons of traffic from YouTube. On all the videos you uploaded to YouTube not one contains a link back to your site in the description box.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE4GYrybIaAYourself.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPPPGl7SH3QYourself.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPPPGl7SH3Q

Go through all of your videos and include http://tutorgiant.com at the beginning of each video description this will automatically become a hyperlink.

Also include the tags: howto, online, tutoring, tips, help, learn, education, school, homework, teaching, grade school, high school - to each of your videos.

(Your site also took quite a bit of time to load this could also be costing you traffic)

People also brought up the use of forums.

A great way to find forums related to your niche is by searching Google with the following search string:

"Powered by vBulletin" + [keywords]
"Powered by phpBB" + [keywords]
"Invision Power Board" + [keywords]
"Powered by WowBB" + [keywords]
"Powered by SMF" + [keywords]

Besides the advice on targeting the parents, you can take your How to Write an Essay and turn it into...

How to Write a Freshman Essay
How to Write a Sophomore Essay

...etc. Or, target the kids who wait until the last minute:

How to Write an Essay on the Way to School
Learning the Pythagorean Theorem During Lunch

Just some ideas on ways to differentiate yourself from the free stuff out there.

Teach, have EVERY page on your site(+ your blog) linking back to your home page. The website that over-took MyWeddingFavors.com for a very valuable search did so through building a system of 47,000 internal links(ie all pages linking to all other pages). As you can imagine, 47k links really boosted the PR!

So get that internal linking system up, and with higher PR you can get to the top of most your targeted searches.

edited to add, if you really want to have the internal linking system work, find a way to get way more pages on your site and then link them to the home page. Right now, with the pages you have, the effect would be minimal. But if you could get a 3k-4k linking system up, you would get that rise in PR and be able to dominate a ton of searches. You could dominate local searches just by including a few phrases like "Tutoring in Orange County".

You can post answers on Yahoo answers and use PPC marketing.

I have the button bar at the top of every article and video page. Isn't this considered a link to my homepage? If not, how do I do it? Should I just put a text link or button bar link at the bottom?

You can actually include two hyperlinks in your YouTube video description box -- one at the beginning, and one after your description text.
