How many Internet Marketers would you say there are in the world?

I am glad to see that you said guesses.
But i suspect the most accurate test is a combination of factors like the amount of warrior members and the number of ezine authors.
But yes every website owner is probably selling something or other. but do not forget some marketers have hundreds of sites even thousands.
I am going with ezine members.

This is tough to define, there are 162,485 members here. I was making money online for 4 years before I heard of Warrior Forum (kinda sounds silly now). Soo you could have people like who I was (a ecommerce site owner), the people who run ebay businesses, Amazon, clickbank, google base. Each of those sites likely has thousands of people who make full time livings. Then people who make money from forum marketing. I did not mention the CPA, Adwords and Adsense guys and gals.

When you say IM person, I am guessing that 1 in 3,000 to try IM make more then $500 at it. Where do you include those people.

So the simple answer is I dont know

Given that we don't even know what an Internet Marketer is, I'm sure that we have no idea at all how many of them there are.

I would be more interested to know how many successful ones there are - say earning more than $100,000 pa purely from Internet Marketing. But then, I'm just being nosey - I've no real use for that information.

Random information and slightly off the topic but here goes...I just worked out that even if there were 500,000 IMers making money online at any one time, that is only 0.0075% roughly of the worlds current population 6,700,000,000! Still a VERY small group of people if you think about it.

I agree with Clive, many do not even know what a Internet Marketer is and many just assume that title just because they sell some junky resell rights product.

In order to get an estimated number you first need to define what a "real" internet marketer is...

I'd estimate one out of every thousand people is trying to make money online, and one out of every hundred of those is succeeding. So figure 6.7 million apparent competitors and 67,000 real ones.

I believe current estimates place it at around 65% internet usage worldwide, so using my statistics, figure the market for all niches at 4.2 billion and the market for the "make money online" niche at about 5.8 million.

According to...

World Internet Usage Statistics News and World Population Stats

there are currently 1,733,993,741 people using the internet.

And according to...

Web Server Survey Archives - Netcraft

there were 233,636,281 active websites. Though I'm not sure how they arrive at that number. In other words, do all Blogger websites count separately, or only count as one? My guess is that by our definition there are many more.

But using that number, I would guess (using the Pareto Principle) that 20% of those are actively trying to sell something, that's 46,727,256 sites.

Then, using the common-knowledge (though highly suspect) number of the 95% vs. 5% failure rate, my best guess is that there are about 2,336,362 "real" internet marketers in the world.

Which also works out to 1% of the total number of websites.

So, based on these number at least, there is 1 internet marketer for every 99 non-marketers.

But, "how many internet users per internet marketer?" isn't all that relevant, because some sites get more traffic, have more interest to multiple users, and there's no need to reach all internet users anyway - that's the whole idea behind market research.

Sometimes it's good to think big, other times that kind of thinking can cost you big.
