Hi I want to help a friend optimise their website offering a local service, using some of the popular IM methods such as EZA, Youtube etc. I want to do keyword research on very local phrases. E.g. think a plumber in a town of Derby, UK. Now the google external tool can't give numeric data for such low volume searches. So the question is where can I do research on such phrases? The low volume doesn't bother me - because we are looking for very targeted visitors, it is not much use getting people who need a plumber in New Zealand or South Africa for example as we are not creating a general site, but a very local-specific one. Thanks in advance for your help! |

Hi, You may want to use google external keyword tools to get as many related search terms for the local traffic. And you can put back each term with quotes back to google to see the competition. |

What data are you looking for? If you assume the searches are very low, maybe <10 per day, then just optimize for them anyway? btw the Google tool DOES give this data, restricting to the UK and try putting in plumber derby. You will get some good results. Another thing you can try is to buy Market Samurai and put some of these keywords in. Then you can do a competition SEO analysis and then look at the anchor text that the top ranking sites have used (you could do it by hand but it would take longer). I did this 2 nights ago for a local bar and was surprised to see how unoptimised all the sites were. I could easily outrank by spinning an article and building 20 backlinks! |

@TKChung - thanks but problem is the volumes are too low. So all I know is that people search for "service - mytown" but I have no idea if "service - mytown" is better to target thane "service - mycounty" or "service - myneighbouringtown" Without numbers I don't know which EZA articles to write first! Does this make sense? |

@ProductCreator thanks - I know it gives some data for that , but that was a made up example to illustrate the point. I could have chosen a better example but I do rush my posts sometimes!

There are also other keyword tools such as market samurai but you can have a trialware or paid one.
